On the subject of numerous truckstops in Europe which are free to park in.
The French have “Aire de repos” every 20 miles on the Autoroute or toll road motorway.
They have toilets and picnic areas.They are built away from the road ,so it is quiet to sleep in.Most are in a forest with dog walking foot paths.
The UK layby is built by a moron.Inches from fast traffic.
I have thought if a large vehicle crashes in to you,that is RIP drive.
My feet face the traffic not my head.
In the report,one comment is why drivers are not paying to park in truckstops.They park in Huntingdon for driving hours.I have parked in the Tesco car park with no problems.

They want their town to have an “economic” life then they need transport.Time to realise that without trucks (specially in this god forsaken backwater) they are buggerd.I thought that such wonderful “clubs” such as the RHA and FTA were there to support their members and tell this petty little man to swivel.A real road haulage association would tell the the “Council” to try a night in a layby with not a pot to ■■■■ in and see if they like it.

Some drivers use been a tramper as an excuse for been a dirty smelly sod.
If you get organised ie carry bin bags,bog roll,wet wipes and hand cleaning gel etc you don’t have to crap out side like a bloody dog.
Get a good wide neck bottle and once a week put a little bleach or disinfectant in and swill it round and it won’t smell.
Life on the road if tough and decent stops are few and far between so it’s up to you to carry these few thing to make it easier,you can’t blame the council because you had a crap in a bush…there is other ways.
I think some geezers though are just naturally animals,the amount of times I see drivers come out of the toilets a not wash there hands is unreal,then you see the same bloke using the coffee machine so god knows what germs get passed on there.

Toilet attendants - just the sort of job that should be given to the lazy so and so’s that don’t want to work.
There should be more facilities properly funded - they’ve just announced a bundle to be spent on new and improving roads. Perhaps some of that money could be used for proper truckstop facilities and which exclude car driving weirdos.

Should we also charge to use toilets in MSA’s like they do in some European countries?
For some reason it’s 30p at most major railway station s but free at airports.
There’s free toilets at a ‘government’ rest area down south but someone kicked off when the cleaner wouldn’t let them in whilst they cleaned it

Hiya a firm i delivered to in Exeter for more than 18 years banned me from the toilets. the older
owners had never made any comment about me useing the outside loos and knew i used them.
one of the sons appeared from uni and worked at the company. i was walking along the yard heading
for the loo,s when i was told the facilities was for this firm and not their for any tom ■■■■ or harry.
thank you young upstart. this company always asked for early deliveries to suit the small yard.
i’d always agreed to get there early but when that happens you don’t feel like helping anyone.

The thing is the only road users demanding them sort of facilities here are truck drivers, so they will never happen. I have never heard of car drivers complaining of lack of places to stop. People generally don’t travel particularly long distances in the UK compared to in much larger countries like France, the current network of MSA’s is good enough for joe public - laybys do a job of giving people somewhere to pull over for a bit. Not designed for truckers living in them.

Have you tried stopping at the services on the A1 at night the little places wont let you use the toilet so where so you go, the only place you can go is the Big Msa so hopefully you wont need to go after them
