Hunting for Warberers

I do admire a cunning and well thought out ambush. Salut.

I do believe Mr Monk is saying that we drivers have a pay rise because of Brexit?

As I’ve said before I don’t believe that our recent spate of payrises are as a direct result of Brexit. What cannot be argued is that they are a direct result of driver shortages. Brexit is just another contributory factor to a cluster ■■■■ many years in the making; there’s not one single cause imo, we can point to the closure of town centre lorry parks, the JIT adoption that massively increases pressure on companies and more importantly drivers, the virtual ending of drivers taking their children on trips with them that at one fell swoop removed the next generation from the industry.

I’d argue that IR35 had a far bigger effect than Brexit, but we are where we are and arguing semantics here won’t change a single thing.

I`m happy to agree* on pay rises, due to a current driver shortage, with many causes, including, but not only Brexit.

*Honest!

We,ve seen shortages in our local Asda, but nothing like in the way that has been reported in the usual sensationalist way the media tends to tell us things, empty shelves, people starving, fighting in the aisles over the last bog roll type of bull crap. that everybody appears to believe as usual. :unamused:

Shortages’ in the sense that there are no single pints of milk, or no particular type of bread, so,.we go to the next shelf,.and get 2 and 4 pint bottles, or instead of buying ‘tiger bread, we’ll buy standard white…in other words ‘‘Nothing to see here’’’, exceot that is …the usual exaggeration of events to achieve an agenda in the way of causing alarm…a la Covid.

(Btw I say ‘‘WE’’ it’s the wife walking elegantly around pushing a trolley, while I’m sat in the supermarket cafe, having a coffee and maybe a brekkie . :sunglasses: )

I still manage a £100 shop every week so don’t see any shortages either.

It can’t be a bad thing having less of those clown firms on UK roads either.

I have noticed (according to fb/instagram anyway) a lot more UK companies seem to be driving on the continent and further. Quite a few pictures of uk firms driving in morroco this month, i thought all that sort of work was long gone.

Aren’t Rogers car trabsport specialists?

Rogers used to…

Appear in the most far flung of places. Whilst loading grapes at the very tip of Italy’s boot I passed a Rogers, fast asleep in a lay-by. It was the only English motor I’d seen for about 3 days.

With all the talk of driver shortages, you’d think that companies would have loads of wagons sat empty in their yards, not moving because of the lack of a driver to take it anywhere. But almost no companies actually have any empty wagons.
So why do we have all the shortages of food and fuel, why is Christmas going to be ruined, and why are we about to apparently run out of beer?
It all goes to show just how much this country relied on not just foreign drivers but also foreign vehicles, carrying out cabbotage runs while in this country. Without all that extra workforce, the transport industry has seemingly collapsed.
Think about it, how many European wagons have you seen this week? Maybe a handful? They used to be bloody everywhere, hell, Warberers were almost as common a sight as a Stobarts wagon and yet I’ve not seen one for months!

Bloody hell what are you on about , when I worked for them they’d often run me from Plymouth - rugby , wick to bloody immingham , Sussex to Boston lincs etc etc empty , it was crap planning nothing to do with there being a driver shortage or not , which I’ve no doubt continues to this day , it obviously does as your still doing it

Plenty in Doncaster Svcs yesterday parked up

Here’s where they all hide…

Waberers Yard.png

The press seem to be repeating old stock pictures showing empty BOG ROLL shelves, rather than food voids in the aisles.

Can’t help but think “This is all a conspiracy”…

I ran empty from Sussex - rugby ( xet) , rugby - crown braunstone ( ht ) then solo to meta Boston , I was based there at the time so it was some planners idea to get me back there
This is why I say running empty is nothing new for stobarts , they peddle the 50 miles max but it’s a myth
Wick - Inverness empty ( reload took off overnight , Inverness - bells hill empty ( nothing there , bells hill - Carlisle ( you’ve guessed nothing there ) , Carlisle - teesport ( pick up cages ) , went in t/0 to get tri number & he gives me the one I’ve just brought in , live load , no nothing here go back out with the one you’ve got , empty to Goole, planner has put a dummy load ad on ( no kidding idiot ) as he can’t have me running any farther empty , so just drive by the place apparently so it looks like you’ve been there , eventually get a load out of knauf immingham
That’s why they chucked loads of work in , nothing to come back
The crazy thing was when we were chilled we’d drop everything at Carlisle , and they’d take it up as they had loads back , but then all this inter depot crap started

I was told William chucked the job in as there was to much empty running , you couldn’t take a load back on a fri as you were down to take a metas load out on a Monday ,( + it’s a metas site , you could take a load of pop in ) so 99% of the time you ran back empty on a Friday
But it was there fault as they shut Newark as they said there was too much empty running back , then had you running a extra hour empty along the a17 empty , we told them that , but they knew best apparently
I lasted 3 weeks ,got back on a Thursday & that was it , thank god

Morrisons have run out of Cunningham’s Piccalilli

They sent Heinz Piccalilli instead, the dirty slags.

From a £130 shop, that was the only shortage. I am blaming the thieving lorry drivers who load from Cunninghams.

Turners/Jack Richard more strong in East England.
