Hungarian snowstorm;this is the future for Britain too?

The road traffic is completely blocked in Hungary since yesterday; All the motorways are closed, hundreds of drivers spent the last night in their vehicles. Army tanks trying to help people in danger, the wind makes the situation more difficult. I can not remember snow in March in Hungary before; obviously the weather is changing… But, what can we expect in Britain? What should we do to get ready weather situations like this? Please, make opinion…

God help us then we can’t even cope with an inch of snow let alone that amount in that top picture.

Though we have much more and better equipment over here… :open_mouth:

That is a real problem, Hungary was the route to the middle east, and everyone thought they were in europe the moment they entered it from the east, for one the people, the roads were smooth as glass, and inn winter, they were always clear, even the shortcuts over the mountains, and that was a feat on its own, considering they were a communist state, unlike the next countries of Romania/Bulgaria, So if, as we can see, the weather patterns around the world are changing, and also closer to home in europe, then we have no chance, for years we have proved we cannot handle it, yet we have the resources to have the best roads in europe, and the best equipment, unfortunately, we dont have the staff or equipment, so god help us when it gets really bad.

The reason the UK struggle with the snow is we have it twice a year for a couple of days then its gone, why invest in hundreds of thousands of pounds for a few days! Also because we hardly get any snow people understandably dont know how to drive in it and most dont bother with winter tyres and chains.

Spot on!

We’ve had plenty of weather situations like that here over the years it’s nothing new.Such as the winter of 1963 and 1981/2 amongst others.

The fact that winters now seem to be dragging on for more than 6 months of the year.Together with a shift in the temperatures expected for the time of year, depending on latitudes, and any decent weather we do get in the Summer usually breaks down in no time with the usual weather forecast of ‘cooler’ ‘fresher’ ( because that fits the bs global warming script better than saying cold weather for the time of year ) weather moving in,is something different. That probably has more to do with global cooling caused by fluctuations in the Sun’s output and the Earth’s tilt and orbit than the bs idea of so called global warming caused by burning a few gallons of oil and a few tonnes of coal adding a minute percentage to the already minute percentage of CO2 in the atmosphere.Ironically the global warming believers’ bs arguments are now contradicting themselves because we’re having to burn loads more fuel to keep warm in the so called Spring and Summer than in earlier years.

That’s already history. In the last twenty years that country was abandoned by their own politics who stole everything. So, they let down every system, just to save money. The army, the emergency services, the highway agency, etc, all suffering of poor budget. Now, the main problem was the total incompetency of their ministry. But, I’m afraid, Britain would be the same mess in a similar situation.

Winter tyres are NOT for snow ONLY. Under 7 Celsius they have a much better grip. I will definiately buy a set of winter tyres for next winter. :sunglasses:

I’ve just bought a new car with different wheel size… And, hopefully, this winter is gone. Howewer, Austria and Germany has a regulation, all vehicles have to have winter tyres between 1st of October and 15th April, if I’m not wrong. So technically this is still wintertime, yes.

That looks bad ,thank god our winter is near past.
Goggle snow Japan in it won’t seem so bad !

There’s four seasons in a year divided by 12 months = 3 months each.Winter is December,January and February and Spring ( should be ) March,April and May.

Germany and Austria have some high regions and temperatures are lower the higher the land mass is throughout the year.Which means that much of the Spring and the Autumn in those regions is often as cold as much of the Winter is in lower countries like Britain etc.Which would explain those Winter temperature tyre requirements.Although I’d guess that conditions in the mountainous parts of France are also around the same as the higher regions of Germany at this time of the year and they don’t seem to have any special tyre requirements.

Ironically I’ve recently given up on my usual run to the Geneva Motor show going through the Jura as it seems like the conditions in Northern France and Britain were ( a lot ) worse than running through that part of France and Switzerland usually is at this time of year. :open_mouth:
