A lorry driver ended up in a tight spot when he followed his sat nav down a winding country lane - and ended up in a ditch.
Part of the 40ft truck, which was carrying potatoes, toppled over and became wedged on its side on the narrow road at Methley, near Leeds in Yorkshire.
Police said the driver, believed to have been from Budapest in Hungary, had taken the HGV down the lane after following instructions on his SatNav device
Witnesses said the driver appeared confused at his predicament after he had collided with two trees and a garden hedge.
Recovery agents say it could take days to remove the truck as it is sinking in to a ditch that runs alongside the lane.
It is thought the cargo of 20 tonnes of potatoes will have to be unloaded by hand first to stabilise the truck.
West Yorkshire Police tweeted: ‘Oops, HGV driver got stuck on a single track road in Methley whilst following his SatNav!’, using the hashtag ‘#youcantparkthere’. The picture was quickly retweeted by unsympathetic social media users.

Thanks Driver-Once-More I couldn’t do that very well on my iPad.
Poor blighter, glad it wasn’t me, there does come a point when you should just stop.
Comments from the Mail’s knuckle dragging readers are down at their usual standard, does anyone actually buy the rag.
Juddian:
does anyone actually buy the rag.
Almost 2 million people a day, second after the Sun.

Only buy the Hull Daily Mail
I like the drivers attire, the COOL MAN sweater is sooooo this season
The mail states the load may have to be unloaded by hand. That wont be a five minute job,24 ton loose in 1 ton bags.
regards dave
There’s a road exactly like that by me, off the A5147 between Maghull and Southport, it’s called Plex Moss Lane, it looks fine when you first turn into it but gets narrower and narrower the further down you go, then you hit a couple of 90 degree bends and your stuffed if you’re in an artic, there’s quite a few HGV’s come to grief down there, trouble is all sat navs send you down there if you want to get to Formby
It’s the comments from the readers that cracks me up. They think because they can drive a car it makes them experts in driving anything. Most of them would struggle to drive a vauxhall Astra round an empty tesco car park without hitting something yet feel they are educated enough to slag off lorry drivers as being incompetent.
Fair enough, this guy didnt do us any favours though!

Although the “Unsuitable for HGV” signs are a bit of a clue…
DVSA would be happy, a very well straped load Lol.
Cheers Welly
Poor bloke. Stopping and phoning the police is embarrassing, the trouble is you never know how much more embarrassing it will be “in a minute” when you are well and truly stuck. The ‘I might get away with this’ thought…!
Hand balling 20t of potatoes off too…one potato two potato three potato four…

Oh - and not “all sat navs” will route you along that road. My TomTom will only use it if set to “car mode” - In “truck mode” it won’t use Plex Moss Lane even if your start point and finish points are at each end of it!

Not that recent - Google Earth shows the signs being there in April 2009. Only 5+ years ago

Sat navs can be deadly sometimes but have become common practice these days I like to use a good old trusty map to get me to the area and then use the sat nav when im closer… the once I used a road through the peak district from Macclesfield to buxton it looked ok on the map but my god what a gruel er of a road never again!
Any update as to how they got it out ?
Or is he still there baking spuds on engine manifold ?
