Hungarian Blockades

Does any one remember the road blocks across the transit routes in Hungary, at the time when Communism was crumbling at the beginning of the nineties ■■
All of a sudden the Western influence flooded across the “East” and freedom was an option for everone. The problem with “freedom” was that along with it came the real cost of living and a sharp rise in fuel costs, which upset all the taxi drivers and independant transport companies, who could no longer rely on cheap fuel from Russia…So the taxi men blockaded all the major junctions across the country , thus causing havoc for anything in transit. As usual we, the international hauliers suffered with these delays, but the Hungarians seemed to be able to make progress !! Because the roads were only blocked on one side. The Hungarian police would then ■■■■■■ the Hungarocamion and other state owned trucks past the blockade on the open side of the road.
After a few days of this Bo##@cks, me and a few others had managed to get as far as Gyor, and then, me being me, I pulled out on the left hand oncoming carriage way and kept going until I was head on to another Hungarian truck.
The motorbike police ■■■■■■ gestured to me and asked " what was I doing ?
I replied " blockieren? Alles blockerien !!" He said OK and got on his bike and rode back !
If you are going to blockade, then block everthing…
Next morning a national newspaper photo journalist came to me with a photo that was used on the front page of the paper.

Here it is

We got as far as the traffic lights and saw one of Brook’s and Snoddy, who had not long been released from " the Human shields in Iraq"…
When we got going again, we were escorted through some back streets by a taxi, avoiding the major road blocks and managed to get all the way to the restaurant at Kiskunhallas without to much problem.

Following Chamberlain was a hazard as he could launch an empty bottle over the cab roof and hit the following truck :stuck_out_tongue:
