None of those closed the Pub in this village Norm. There hasn’t been one here for about three hundred years.

If the only ale available was Newky Brown, I would be teetotal myself.
When I was a young stag,
I drank, IPA, stout, black & tan, rum, beers and lagers of all describsions, wines I loved with my meals, Bicardi, Vodka with tomato juice, Southern Comfort, Irish Mist, that was the nearest I came to liking whisky, don’t mind it in coffee,
oh of cause Champers & Oysters. Also Harry, did you mean when you said there is no flies on Dennis,
he had too many spiders that kept them at bay!

You must have been ■■■■■■ as a mattress most of the time Norm, drinking all that lot.Good grief you must have more gout than the Duke of Edinburgh.

Had it cured it,
oh I left out Brandy, as I mentioned my parties was famous, those that came was always talking about them, and those who were not asked, wanted to know why, some I said I have never been invited by you, others I told the truth,
and told them I did not like them, some I told I couldn’t stand being in their company. Do you think I was a little reserved!
Hmm no replies,
everyone must have had a early night, or too exhausted after a weekend on the tiles,
or too fat and lazy to walk to their laptops.

[ZB]Anorak wrote:“Christ knows what will power future lorries- probably hydrogen fuel cells, charged by nuclear power. Electronics will probably have taken over all the remaining driving functions. The driver will just be there as an overseer, maybe to maneouvre the vehicle at the beginning and end of its journey.”Yes.I think you are generally right:Certain motor vehicle manufacturers and other interested parties have already experimented with motor vehicles that can be automated to drive themselves and/or can be remotely controlled - Mercedes-Benz has also developed a system whereby the leading lorry controls
several other lorries that are travelling in convoy behind it - as to how practical this is remains to be seen.ACCIDENT FREE ROADS AND MOTORING.
I am reminded of a recent *Zurich Motor Vehicle Insurance television advertisement. This great advertisement goes in to the future and shows how,if need be,Zurich’s insurance policies can be made flexiable to take in to account new technologies, when applied to,in this case, motor road vehicles. The scene is a busy main road, the driver of a motorcar switches on the Accident Avoidance System Control, all the other motor vehicles also have this system and it enables them to travel in free flowing traffic, enter main roads without stopping for oncoming traffic,go through junctions without traffic lights, and so on without any collisions and accidents!![]()
… One of my slogans is this:Science fiction today becomes science fact tomorrow, and it is true, thus an in-built Accident Avoidance System Control in motor road vehicles,or something along similar lines, will become a reality in the future
MOTOR VEHICLES WILL DRIVE THEMSELVES.
There are at least two other things that I recall, which will not only apply to motorcar drivers, but also drivers of motorcoaches, buses and lorries,as well as what I have said in the above paragraph:Motorcar Historian,Lord Montagu of Beaulieu wrote this book,The British Motorist - A Celebration in Pictures, published in 1987,in which he mentioned the future of motoring;he said the “driver” and his or her passengers will get in to the motorcar and it will then drive itself to wherever their destination will be.THE “DRIVER” IS ENJOYING A GAME OF CARDS WHILE THE MOTORCAR DRIVES ITSELF.
I once saw an article, maybe in an old EAGLE ANNUAL from the 1950s or 1960s,about The Motorcar Of The
Future, and one of the illustrations showed motorcars travelling along on a motorway. In the nearest automobile (the drawing portrays the rear view of the cars),the “driver” and his passengers are all sat round a table enjoying a game of cards,or whatever, while the motorcar drives itselfYOUR DRIVING SKILLS ARE NO LONGER CONSISTENTLY NEEDED - YOU WILL RECEIVE A CUT IN WAGES?
If lorries, buses, motorcoaches, vans, taxis, motorcars, etc, drive themselves, will the proffessional drivers (or should that be Oversee Drivers?) have to suffer a cut in wages since their driving skills will virtually be no longer used?..except “maybe to maneouvre the vehicle at the beginning and end of its journey.”Having said all that, governments will have to limit the amount of automation in all areas of industry, business, etc,or else if everything is automated there will be mass unemployment and most people will not be able to afford to buy the products of what the automated factories produce
FUTURE POWER FOR MOTOR VEHICLES.
In 2114,probably all vehicles will be powered by electric motors, which will be energized by either long range
lightwight batteries (yes, battery technology will have made THE major breakthrough!) and/or on-board
hydrogen-fuelled internal combustion engines driving electricity generators.SELF DRIVEN MOTOR VEHICLES AND/OR MOTOR VEHICLE JOURNEYS CONTROLLED BY SUPER COMPUTERS.
To return to the Accident Avoidance System Control,it could well be that to eliminate accidents, cut down on
traffic jams,to maintain free-flowing traffic and so on,all motor road vehicles will drive themselves, will be in constant communication with each other via radio and in-built computers to enable their movements to be co-ordinated. And/or all motor road vehicles will be remotely controlled by a super and powerful computer that will co-ordinate the movements of all the motor road vehicles, and will,of course, take in to account the pre-programmed destination(s) of each road vehicle.
Probably each town, city and motorway will each have it’s own computer,i.e. for example your lorry,or motorcoach, whatever, will be controlled by the London computer, then, when it enters the M1 Motorway Northbound Carriageway, the M1 computer takes over and when your lorry exits the M1 for Sheffield, the Sheffield computer will take over. Town and city computers will also cover the motor vehicles and roads in countryside areas.
We probably already have all the technology to do all of the above NOW!![]()
JUST A MATTER OF TIME AND MONEY.
It’s just going take time and a lot of money to enable millions of motor vehicles to simultaneously drive themselves,and/or to be remotely controlled-driven by super computersA TRUE SLOGAN:SCIENCE FICTION TODAY IS SCIENCE FACT TOMORROW.
And if you think that some or all of the above is far-fetched,well…self-propelled road vehicles, wireless
-radio communications - flying in aeroplanes, recorded sounds, including music and speech, spaceship journeys to the moon, television, and so on were all misguidedly thought of as being impossiable at one time,BUT they all became realities:Science fiction today becomes science fact tommorowA GLIMPSE IN TO THE FUTURE:-
NOTE:You need to log in to the website to view the video film.
So self-driven and/or remotely controlled-driven motor road vehicles of all types and kinds will perform
peerlessly like they do in this wonderful *Zurich Financial Services - Zurich Insurance What Happens ? : Cars

I daresay that two-litre plastic pop bottles will still be around.
Lol
Personally I think in the future,
if you want to relieve your bladder, it will go into a funnel and used to assist the propelent of the vehicle, but most likely that whisky drinkers would be a higher octane,
therefore get a higher rate of pay,
due to better performance and more MPG.
Good idea that ,funnel it straight into the ad blue tank .

According to this, you need to boil the water off the wee, then add nitric acid. Your untreated exhaust smoke contains NOx which, when dissolved in water, makes nitric acid. Therefore, if you pass the exhaust through a canister of wee at the right temperature, you will boil off just enough water and generate just enough nitric acid to separate out all of the urea, which can then be introduced to the catalyst to remove the remaining NOx. You may even generate more urea than you need to pass the emissions test, so you can sell it to other hauliers. Wee, as a waste product, is very cheap and is a renewable resource. I reckon a stainless steel tank on the outlet of the turbocharger, with a pipe connected to the pop bottle in the cab and another pipe connected to the Adblue tank, should do it. There might be a bit of a stink, but the clean air lobby can’t have it both ways, can they?
Regarding the original thread title, this is the future- we can shape it ourselves! Dragon’s Den here I come.
PS I am not a chemist.

The answer is simple really:On the dashboard-control panels of computer-controlled-driven lorries,
motorcoaches, cars, etc, there will be an array of control switches and buttons, some of which will over ride
the pre-instructed computer-controlled journey programme. Thus,if you are on the motorway and want to call in at the services, you press the Motorway Services button and your motor vehicle will call in and stop
at the next services on the motorway…or,if you have already pre-programmed your motor vehicle
to call in at such and such services before the start of your journey,it will then automatically call in at these
services
Computer engineers-programmers and motor vehicle designers will have thought of everything in regard
to automated motor vehicles, and engine and generator and electric motor efficency will be better than what it is now - there’ll be no need for bottles
.Especially if the windings, wire, components, etc,of the generators and electric motors are made out of superconducting,i.e. zero resistance, metal wire and/or
other material

I can’t help but think the future of all vehicles will be propelled by four electric motors driving each wheel. They would obviously need a reliable smallish diesel engine ticking over to power generators to keep the batteries charged to power the electic motors.
From the experience of showmen we already know what are the best diesel engines to power generators. So perhaps ‘come back Gardiner, all is forgiven’.
However more seriously to help the engine, and increase efficiency, such things as windpower, and the power lost whilst braking can be used also for box and curtainside vehicles solar pannels can be used on the roof to create more energy. It is not impossibe that fuel efficiency of up to 100 mile per gallon or foreign measurement per foreign measument as we will be using by then will be easily possible.
As the vehicle goes forward wind resistance could be cannelled into turbines to generate electricity. That is what I mean by windpower.
Ah!but what if you were out the night before and went an Indian and had a vindaloo that turned your stomach upside done, thus needing an urgent almost immediate plan of action! We have all been there.
Human after all.
Another larger funnel to help create methane gas.
I bet 200 years from now, there will still be drivers saying:
‘I prefer the Eton twin splitter over this gearbox’
Jaysus lol.so we need to intergrate the internal deisel, petrol, methane, combustion engine ,with the human external combustion engine for automation to work?
