human waste

question put to me today
is human waste been collected from mobile toilets by a gulley sucker when been transported in the gulley sucker does the driver need a haz chem licence or have haz chem qualification ?

couldnt see anything on vosa website

There’s quite a few ‘miscellaneous substances and articles’ put down public toilets

lol i agree but lets just say the general stuff

does the toilet cleaner hold a ADR licence? does the sewarage worker hold a ADR licence? do the drain cleaners hold ADR licences? do the public need to pass ADR BEFORE HAVING A DUMP?
The mind boggles

Too polite to say …it then ?

My first driving job in the states was for an English owned and run septic company (the 3 bosses were from Grimsby) I never actually emptied the poop tanks etc because my job was to deliver new or cleaned tanks etc to various building sites where expert poop tank fitters would install them and plumb them into mobile offices but ! … I did see the septic tankers go in and out all day long and they never had hazmat licences or placards and in this country they are very strict about hazardous crap, I couldn’t even carry a can of disifectant larger than 5 gallons unless I had a hazmat licence.

This guy empties from the poop tanks via the gulley sucker and transports in the gulley sucker back to a 40 ft tanker where it is transfered over to the tanker then goes back and does the same again all day long
not a job for me but supposedly good money as not too many can do the job

You could say the driver was in the crap for this, however he doesn’t need ADR or any other certificates as it is classed as non Hazardous.

Various infected substances that carry a known bacteria or health hazard could be carried under UN 2814 or UN 2900 but is not generally needed in the UK

It could be difficult to find it in ADR, it is like looking for the UN number for Strawberry Jam or Marmalade

However I believe the answer is contained here, but I am always willing to learn.

Just remember if the consignor tells you it is not classified or non hazardous, the driver is in the clear, it is not their responsibility

As it happens, I work in the “brown” industry. There is no need for a driver to have any ADR for transporting regular septic waste. Just a strong stomach or a very poor sense of smell.

When the Andrex runs out I fill in a waste transfer ticket.

Hi nedflanders,

Wheel Nut has this one spot-on, including the link to Section 2.2.62 of ADR.

There is no link to prove this except the one already provided, because ADR contains a list of substances classified as “dangerous” and I can tell you that the ‘stuff’ in question is not on that list.

I understand that word of mouth might not work at all times, but I’ll add that I’m a qualified DGSA and ADR instructor, so I hope that will be good enough.

When I read the title of this thread I thought it was referring to me

Only start to worry if you carry as much poop as these guys:

I worked in the drainage industry for 6 years and never had any form of ADR. Sucked up plenty of the stuff and saw plenty of it all over the roads when the drains backed up, including standing ankle deep shovelling it into buckets when the vehicles could not get near enough. The industry also does not have to comply with Tacho rules either having an exemption.

Either way, it’s a ■■■■ job.

Ken.

thanks diesel dave and wheel nut that answer s the question not sure will my mate be too happy though he thought it was a way of getting out of the job :unamused: :unamused: :unamused: :unamused: :unamused: :unamused:
