Any HL fans,anyone going?
I enjoyed a lot of their music, I still have some on my mobile playlist on my phone.
Any band with the synthesised music is good for me.
Iâve never seen HL live but they had a lot of hits.
I enjoyed Donât you want me, being boiled and mirror man. Itâs hard to believe Donât you want me was released in the very early 80s, it still sounds modern.
They were definitely way ahead of their time in the 80âs.
This was the best early 80s electronic synch âNew Romanticâ track from Human League n my opinionâŚâSound of the Crowdâ
Atmospheric and a dancefloor filler.
It just personifies the mood and atmosphere in clubs in the early 80s and takes me right back there.
(No I did NOT have the Phil Oakey hairstlye but I plead guilty to the mullet in a ponytail, Magnum tache, rolled up jacket sleeves with upturned collar, shoes with no socks, chinos in a Miami Vice Style behind the decks thinking I looked cool âŚbut in reality on reflection looked a right poser and a complete 2hat.
)
I digress.
Yeah they were a good band and one of the Brit catalysts of this type of sound pioneered by the German band 'Kraftwerk along with the likes of OMD, Jon and Vangelis, and Tubeway ArmyâŚGary Newman.
They also were a versatile band illustrated by them going all.ââMotownââ in the likes of ''Mirrorman '.
(Jeez man⌠my talents are wasted being a 'kin trucker.âŚI should have been a music journo.
)
Oh, another brilliant band, Ultravox and Vienna!
That Vienna trackâŚhate it with a passion.
Dare was a brilliant album, Iâve still got the LP and I must have worn out at least two cassettes.
Other tracks I still love: Visage Fade to Grey, ABC Poison Arrow, Heaven 17 Temptation, Depeche Just Canât Get Enough and of course Donna Summer and I Feel Love.
Yep love ABC ⌠and Depeche Mode.
Preferred Depeche Modes later stuff.
As for an 80s track that epitomises the 80s for me?
Rule the world,.Tears for Fears.
Love that opening sequenceâŚ, and flying through the desert in an open top Austin Healy 3000 would be brilliant. âŚbut that bloody pony tail brings back some (embarrasing
) memories.
Kurt Smith todayâŚpony tail gone, âŚat least Iâve aged better than him.
And look at Roland WhstshisfaceâŚhe looks like God ffs.
(Am I the only one who thinks young Kurt is the spit of Newcastle Utdâs Tino Liveramento btw ?)
Too many tracks to list, but The Working Hour and Mad World and the progression from Broken to Head Over Heels on âSongs From the Big Chairâ⌠love it.
A French song, sang in French, and at 2 minutes and 3 seconds in could that be franglais making an appearance in his younger days?
Great song though.
If you listen to Kurt these days, heâs being very smart about managing his voice.
Donât mind that at all.
Both Roland and Curt have done very well as they grew up in Snow Hill, itâs still a run down and a deprived area of Bath.
Curt lives in L.A now.
