HSS towed for scrap

The Concorde of the Irish Sea.

Anyone remember the Turner’s truck hanging off the back?

Agreed, Personally never used it, but a paddy i used to work with used it all the time for trips back home to see his family! if I was up there on holiday, i used to watch her dock and load/unload! FANTASTIC the speed which it could be done!

It was on Top Gear too…they ‘missed’ the ferry!

Really is a shame, seen it as i was coming of the superfast in belfast few weeks back and wondered what its future held, guess now we know

been on the Voyager a couple of times, fantastic, even though i don’t smoke, i couldn’t resist standing at the back end ( aft ) when it was on full song.

So the Holyhead to Dublin ship still operates then

It makes limited sailings in the Summer.

When I was a kid I missed going on the last airworthy Short Sandringham/Sunderland flying boat, which used to operate out of Poole Bay, and I was never rich enough to fly on Concorde although I saw Concorde 002 (British prototype) take off from RAF Fairford with full afterburners, and I suspect that these HSS might be a similar high water point in ferry design. Technically unmatched, but grown old before their time.

So it might be worth going on the last one, just for the experience. Probably cost x10 more than a Ryan Air to Dublin, but you’d want to remember the HSS for the rest of your life, and forget about the flight as soon as you could.

“Warp speed, Mr Sullu!”

i hadnt been on voyager but i was on explorer i was even invited up to the bridge and took a turn steering the thing - they are some mighty machines shame its getting broken up would make a nice yacht if someone had the time and money to spend on it

Boldly going forward, it’s a bit like our job really, going into the unknown…

A real shame.

I went on the sister ship - Explorer - when visiting Dublin about 12 years ago, it was an amazing experience, from Wales to Southern Ireland in 99 mins.

Even saw Samuel L Jackson onboard on the return journey, he’d been playing golf in Ireland.

Still 1 of my most memorable days (despite the alcohol intake), and I’ve had a few ‘special days’
