Bass player Nick Beggs from Kajagoogoo.
I used to be a massive fan of Howard Jones in the 80s when I was in 6th form, I was a member of the fan club for my sins.
I’ve seen him a few times in the 80’s when he had the mime artist on tour with him called Jed or Jez?
First time at the now closed down nightclub in Chippenham called Goldiggers, I was waiting outside to get in and HoJo’s brother walked past and Jed.
The second time Eagle coaches in Bristol would buy the tickets and provide the transportation so saw him at the NEC in Birmingham.
See you there then, you definitely won’t regret buying a ticket.
Too far south for me I’m afraid. The mime dancer was called Jed.
That’s the guy.
It certainly was a rival club to Hacienda in Manchester, unfortunately shut down for the bad apples that ruined it by selling drugs.
Tears For Fears.
Level 42.
Thompson Twins.
Pet Shop Boys.
Howard Jones.
Hall and Oates
Essential part of the soundtrack of the 1980’s.
All those listed are my favourites too, along with Depeché Mode, OMD, King, China Crisis, INXS, Blancmange, New Order, Strawberry Switchblades, and the The Police.
No it didn’t !
Who told you that exactly?
The whole operation was virtually run around ‘E’.s (Ecstacy tablets)
From what I heard (personally) from a (very) reliable source the security door men were even dealing…(allegedlly.) it was also alleged it was official policy.but not proven.
According to Peter Hook of New Order,( a major share holder along with the rest of the band,.alongside local celeb Tony Wilson and Rob Gritton.) the club was about 20 million quid in debt, and that was around 2010.
Today that would be around 30 million?
It was a cash drain that killed it…sweet fa to do with drugs and bad apples.
I only visited the Hacienda once, during the summer of 1985. I was a sparks mate working on an office block in Manchester, I was asked out by one of the office girls and duly obliged. All her friends turned up too, I was a token Scouser in a Manc nightclub surrounded by a gang of fit local lasses. I thought I’d died and gone to heaven with my bevvy of bang tidy tottie!!!
Sounds a perfect night out.
INXS Mistify, Howard Jones What is Love, Pet Shop Boys West End Girls and Love Comes Quickly all definitive products of the day, including the official videos for them.
Good music back then, I don’t bother listening to what they churn out now as new music.
I only listen to Heart 80s in the patrol car, even though I’ve got DAB in my own car, I can’t pick it in west Cumbria, the signal is very hit and miss.
Cumbria is a beautiful part of the country when driving in that area.
It’s certainly nice patrolling it during the summer, not so nice in the winter.
