I do
First keep Temperature low and drive with Jacket,as Body may undercool if you have an Accident and be trapped
Listen,as it may change from Wet to icy when it gets quiet
avoid shifting Gears when slippery, and not use Exhaust Brake
Fuel Tank up every Day,as wet Air will contence on Tank Wall. (Dont need Condentswater in Tank)
keep Windows,Mirrors and Lights clean
Give Load-weight Distribution Priority,as low Weight on a Axle will give ABS lots to do.(ABS open a Brake extens Brakingway)
Remember. There are two Brake Systems to keep Road Train in a straight Line.,avoiding Jack knifeing as good as possible.
a.) like DAF. If you tipp Brake Pedal just that much to hear Brakelight Relais you will feel Trailer braking.
b.) other Lorry use a System where the Trailer brakes a bit harder then Unit.
But
- a.) System not function when doing Emergency braking
b.) System not function when Electronic is braking
WORKS ONLY WHEN USE OF BRAKE PEDALL
2.) ABS only works when "Full on the Petal. Otherwise ABS not function fully,
and
working ABS will extend Stopping Distance
Lorries built to run best when Weight is nearly maxed out. (Function when empty is a by-Product)
Thar why you max out Weight on Fifth Wheel as good as possible,as the Unit shall have controll over the Road Train, and not the Trailer. Light Axles dont brake that good, especially when Wet and Slippery.
Snow is a Natural Product which changes his Molecules quicker as you would think.
Fact is: higher Temperature on Ground and Snow is slippery, doesnt matter how cold the Air is.
Cold Ground and Snow is grippy.Doesnt matter much about Air-Temperature
but
The Colder, the more Grippy, and by -10 Centigrace you may drive as on a wet Road, just a bit more distance to Vehicle in Front and not much more Speed when overtaking then the slower Vehicle.
There are Training Sites who would train you driving on slippery Surface.
Always know in which direction the Wheel show. If they find Gripp they will go in that Direction.
Dont panic if no grip on icy Road. You may get Grip before hitting the Blanket,as there is usually Dirt where Lorry may recover (or not)
Fit new Tires if possible in October-November. Not fully worn Tire can be used later on a middle Axle.
Think positive.
Anywhy. I am going to Holiday and be back in Spring.
You can find me when google Topaz Lake NV/Ca
But having plenty Winters behind me
