HOW TO: Zip merging

switchlogic:
Jesus is this still going round and round! Good work chaps keep it up.

What do expect from a thread involving curryfart

I will be down the A55 again tomorrow around noon so I’ll be looking forward to a repeat of my last trip along there which saw a kid in a souped up Corsa destroy his front end by rear ending the Land Rover in front of him as he tried to prevent me from “jumping the queue”       . Hopefully Carryfast and his equally dim chums will all be on here continuing with their invalid arguments which will give me a nice clear SARP-free run.

Rob K:
‘… I … saw a kid in a souped up Corsa destroy his front end by rear ending the Land Rover in front of him as he tried to prevent me from “jumping the queue”…’

Which supports my point that Government is seemingly content to avoid giving us either leadership or intention of the same in managing ‘zip merging’ [sic].

Why so? Because when it goes wrong it provides:

a) The entertaining opportunity for Darwinian ‘natural selection’ to identify Red Bull muppets within society, but perhaps more seriously.

b) Jobs to clear the road, jobs to nurse the idiots (and those that are either unfortunate, are inactive to avoid them or are quickly active to engage them) and jobs to repair, sell new and insure their much desired machinery - upon which HMRC draws VAT to fund our never-ending EU subscription to Brussels.

In short, it fuels our penchants for both consumerism and supposed freedoms

OK, There could be jobs in ‘managing’ the situation too, but as alluded to earlier in this thread it could be seen as being too close to Communism or Nazism.

All of this has the added bonus of Parliament avoiding it’s arguable responsibility and being accused by our media of ‘nannying’.

This demonstrates first hand the true, real and painfully accurate benefits [sic] of living in the liberal utopia of a diverse society as seemingly sought by us and the guys we vote into Government. Simples

Which bit aint true?

:open_mouth: That’s a bit heavyweight for me at this hour of the day Keith.

Rob K:
‘… :open_mouth: That’s a bit heavyweight for me at this hour of the day Keith…’

Maybe’s - and why I broke it into bitesize paragraphs to match my bitesize breakfast Shreddies before a 15.15hrs start later

£5 to your chosen charity says it’s evidenced by truths though

Carryfast:

Wheel Nut:
You know when you go to the supermarket, carryfast is the one at the end of that long queue while people who actually know what they are doing use all the available checkouts, leaving one to join another if that lane is moving quicker. That way you get through quicker without causing any distress to others!

How the zb can you use all the ‘available checkouts’ if they’ve closed them all except zb one. :open_mouth:

Using your idea everyone would still have to queue up at all the closed ones and then swap over to the one remaining open one when they as they reach the front of the queue in each. :open_mouth: :unamused:

But in general the speed of traffic merging on a motorway using ROG’s number 1 idea is a lot faster than the speed which they can move a queue at the supermarket. If you don’t believe it just stand there and take my money at the Dartford crossing and leave the gate open as I drive straight through at 50-60 mph.

Still an arse then carryfast.

No, he isnt in this case.
I asked a question in this thread several times, no one could be bothered to answer it (Probably didnt like the answer) All I got was a mouthful of ■■■■■■ and blinding from RobK. I stuck to the discussion, I didnt bad-mouth anyone so WHY?

Rogs "No1 idea does happen as I said “mostly at night when the roads arent congested”, even sometimes in the day and the queues we are discussing dont happen, even when you get an arse who has to brake at the last minute causes a small hold up then the queue will not form because there is enough room on the road to support the “incident”.
What I and, I believe everyone else who thinks curryfast is an arse is talking about is when there is a queue alredy there in which case it is always better to use both lanes.

His lack of understanding is that the queue has only formed because you cannot squeeze more cars into one lane than can safely fit there without them having to slow down and that is why the queue has formed. It has nothing to do with how far before the cones people have merged, only that they have had to merge. It makes no difference when the merging has happened just that the amount of available space has reduced.

I drive at night and at day and I see queues at cones when traffic is congested and no queues when traffic is not congested, I also see arses trying to overtake until the last second when the roads are not congested, there are a few brake lights but no queues form, because there is plenty space to soak up the little incident. The problem is abolutely not when people decide to merge it is purely our congested roads.

My big problem is when you get the arse who believes they are helping out humanity by blocking two lanes when the merge point is clearly marked out ahead by the cones. Any signs before that are merely a warning of the distance to the cones, not a distance to the random point picked out by a SARP just because he or she has decided that anyone going past them is “Pushng in”.

I have tried my best to let these idiots who break the law by blocking two carriageways see why these situations happen, but I really now believe that if you cant see the truth you really must be an arse and should think twice before you next put your keys in any vehicle.

The cat writes another excellent post.

I was down through Abergele yesterday morning and there was 4 miles of standing traffic up to the roadworks, the bulk of it caused by an unmarked artic that was blocking lane 2 at least 1.5 miles before the lane closure signs even started. :unamused: Not surprisingly, once he’d got into the roadworks both of the lanes picked up speed from less than walking pace to around 30mph and for the most part the merging worked not too bad - certainly I didn’t have any problems merging where the sign says “MERGE IN TURN AHEAD” as a couple of clued up car drivers in lane 1 had a gap each for me and the 2 behind me - there was no slamming on of brakes or coming to a standstill, the speeds were matched and the ‘zipping’ worked as intended. I don’t understand why people can’t get their thick heads round this concept. I think it should be part of the driving test. :bulb:

I use two methods to merge, if traffic is flowing then I will merge, or allow someone else to merge, in good time so that traffic keeps flowing, if traffic is stopped and I’m in the lane that is closed then I go right to the cones, I’m not pushing in or queue jumping, it’s the way it should be done and I’m doing it right, if it ■■■■■■ people off, well hey ho, I don’t wear my care face when I’m stuck in traffic :sunglasses:

I was down through Abergele yesterday morning…

So did I but heading from Holyhead. Was running fine that way with traffic merging nicely a little way before the cones and at a decent speed, I just stayed in lane 1 and I was still doing an indicated 45 as I passed the start of the cones. Going the other way there was a fair old queue and I saw one SARP in a red and white artic blocking people’s progress.

I was going through the roadworks about 13:00 Rob so we night have passed each other at some point.

What is a SARP? I trawled through a couple of pages trying to find out, but all I saw was carryfast, bless him, going over the same thing time after time, I’m within an inch of losing the will to live, HELP :exclamation:

Were you in convoy with another one from your co.? I saw 2 together around 1230, 1 was a white unit with DHL sticker on and a yellow tandem and can’t remember what other one was, maybe a white trailer and same unit. I did consider PMing you to see if you were over that way but in the end I decided ■■■■ it.

Well put the [zb] on block then like several of us has done. If you keep replying to him then he’ll keep thinking someone cares for his BS and keep on posting it. :unamused:

That was me, ex DHL trailer with all the decals removed so just plain tatty yellow now. The white one my mate Bob was pulling behind me was one of our new trailers, well new to us anyway.

Around 12:30 I would have been somewhere between Angelsey and Conwy.

May have been a bit later as them roadworks held me up for nearly an hour as the traffic was at a complete standstill for some time. Wish I’d known, I could’ve collared you for a brew and saved missen a couple of quid. :sunglasses:

I like him anyway, he talks bollox, but it’s entertaining sometimes and he takes all the abuse he gets in good spirits, He even uses paragraphs now so it’s easier on the eye :open_mouth:
