You should have already had it back. How long was the ban?

12 month ban you would have had it back by 2002. Sometimes the TC adds 3 months before you get your vocational licence back. If you are over 45 you need a medical and then your licence will probably be returned in the next post

Were you born before 1968?

i was banned in 2010 for a year, dangerous driving in my own car,i classed it as speeding they thought otherwise(100 mph+)
got a 12 month ban, resit car test then had to go in front of tc to see if i was getting hgv licence back, took 6 months for it to get sorted out,but alls well, back on the road an happy.

If you can’t do it on line then phone Swansea - they are always helpful.

You asked this same question in 2009 :open_mouth:

when your ban is/was completed merely apply for your licence back to DVLA on the appropriate form with the appropriate fee and a photo, medical may be required if over 45 yrs of age, DVLA will inform TC for your area if they have any objections, first time offenders normally have to wait upto a month following reinstatement of car licence before hgv is returned, repeat offenders usually have to take a further more stringent medical with a doctor chosen by DVLA who specialises in addiction problems and if pass ok then car licence will be reinstated but TC makes decision on HGV licence and will usually require you to pay them a visit, following said visit you will subsequently be informed of their decision as to reinstate HGV and also the length of time before such reinstatement takes place. As your offence is more than ten years then your offence is now spent and should not show on your licence as you appear to have also completed the extra year that is required before a clean licence can be obtained. All the above is only a rough guide as the doctors, TCs, all make the decisions they believe to be appropriate. Your conduct since the offence will also be taken into consideration, driving whilst disqualified etc
Good luck

He got it back in 09…then got banned again■■?

grumbo…over to you.

You have to APPLY to DVLA for it back

DVLA will then inform you what you have to do

In the case of DD it could mean a ‘chat’ with the Traffic Commissioner in your area who is responsible for vocational licences (LGV & PCV)

If the medical has expired then a new D4 medical will be required

NOTE to anyone reading who has had a ban of any sort - the driver must apply for it back - it does not automatically get re-instated after a ban
Seen a few get caught on TV cop progs recently who assumed wrongly !!

If he was done again I don’t think he should be driving trucks for a living.Once is a mistake, twice is plain stupid !! :open_mouth: :smiling_imp:

Yes it costs between 65 or 90 quid dependent on offence.

Apparently they do send you a D1 application form 56 days before your licence is due back, but for an HGV you only need to complete D2

Just to clarify some offences stay on your license for 4 years others for 11.

I was banned in '96 applied for my car license back in 06 and they had ‘lost’ records of me ever having obtained a license, Took an age to sort out, and had to have a friendly magistrate help sort things out, ended up agreeing that I had to start afresh, do theory and practical and I also lost the pre '97 goodies that I had on the original. Makes me wonder when they lost it as I could have had a clean license back sooner  .

Firstly thanks for all the replys ,(I was very suprised)

Just to clear a few things up , the original ban was was for 28 months reduced to 21 in 2001 , I reapplied for licence and thought it would be less hassle to apply for the car licence as all I wanted was the 7.5 tonne bit back as I had no intention of driving the class ones again, not to know they would only send back a 3.5 tonne
licence …
A mistake I now know , however I thought oh well bit of a comedown , but at least a licence and back on the road…
I also forgot to mention at the time I was heading for 45 ( Born 1965 ) and a bit skint so although fit (I think) couldn’t afford the medical.
So since then thats what ive had, I ve a clean driving record to date but doing recovery if youve got much more than a lawn mower on a 3.5 …
well you know…

Oh and yes I did put this question in 2009 and NO I havent been banned since .

So thanks to all you lads for the replys , I think I’ll have a go at getting it back now…
