How to drive your new 1989 F12

Any one seen this before?

IN 1989 we still dreamed of motors like this

He’s a bit posh to be a truck driver. Lol. My all time favourite truck though except maybe the original flat roof one.

What about having to put the wipers on to enable access to the tacho head ,hah ha…also on the ‘Flat tops’ the overdrive was where the later abs switch was situated. As others have said it is also the best truck Ive ever driven and still compare the new stuff with it , some are still not as good !

I don’t think Volvo have improved since those motors and actually have taken a step back thesedays, especially with build quality. As a young driver in the early 80’s driving one of these, even though one or two were hired or demo units spoiled me and I don’t think I enjoyed driving so much in later years as I did then, even less when I got my backside in a FL7, what a waste of road space they were. Interesting to note the shutting down of the engine, a recent thread on here about this created differing opinions as some said they just turned the key straight off as soon as they stopped and it wouldn’t harm the engine or turbo. The dubbed voice over was rather a bit too BBC but it was easily understood. Franky.

Oh yeah. The splitter switch was a little T bar on the dash instead of being a rocker switch on the gear lever. It just seemed amazing to have 16 gears in them days!
How about the accelerator pedal being air operated so you had to build the air up with the pull out hand throttle on a morning. Lol.
Happy days.
