How to check your height

Forget all that faffing about with an old fashioned tape measure. Technology is your friend!!

Just load up and head off through the Elbtunnel at rush hour on a Friday afternoon.

The state of the art height control will calculate that your vehicle exceeds the permitted maximum 4.00 m before you enter the tunnel and will immediately close down the whole Autobahn until the Polizei arrive and ■■■■■■ you off the road.

The ensuing 20km tailback is an extra added bonus as a testament to the fact that you shouldn’t be out alone :imp:

I hope it isn’t bang on 4m, I used to go under one of them height detectors with a tilt and the airflow lifting the front of the sheet used to set it off. the Bridge was 14ft my running height was 13’ 4".

I had the walk of shame at the Coen tunnel in Amsterdam. I had just picked a new Pacton tilt up and was going to load it with Talcum Powder for Mike Taylor. The wind got under the sheet as I approached the laser beam and all the barriers dropped and the lights flashed.

The Rijkswacht officer wandered up and pulled a telescopic measuring stick out, he tried his best to make it read over 4.0m but he couldn’t, so had to open the barriers and let me go

As it happened I could have come off at the junction just before to get onto Industrie Weg where I was loading

I got stopped in Denmark, was measured and was overheight. I lowered it on the air suspension all the way but I was still overheight. The copper told me I was going to have to turn back because I wasn’t going any further.

So I thrust my paperwork at him and said “I’ve got 30 million euro’s worth of opiates here which have been ordered by your Government and are critically urgent, so you’d better give me your name and number so I can explain to your boss why hundreds of Danish cancer sufferers are going to die shrieking in agony tonight before you get the sack”.

“Carry on, Mr Monk”

Had the same problem at the north bound Blackwall. Red lights on everyone stops then over the tannoy a disembodied voice say’s will the driver of the blue scania please walk back to the phone on the wall 300 yards behind his trailer. I head for the phone with everyone looking daggers at me mouthing but im only 4 metres its the wind in the soft roof iv’e just come out of the eurotunnell with no problem. Had to wait for a motor cycle cop to come and ■■■■■■ me off were they have a measuring stick by the side the exit road. police man said they have this problem 4 or 6 times every day and let me go through but said if i had been over it would have cost me big time with points.

Several years ago I loaded some extended Mercs out of Germany for Rotterdam destined to Africa ■■?. Couldn’t get height below 4.2M but thought all would be well if I closed my eyes at every bridge! All went well until a tunnel near Rotterdam which said Max Height 4.1M. At that point I bottled it and took slip road off to find another route little did I know the roundabout off was also 4.1M under motorway. Scraped both cars top deck on bridge. Delivered to Rotterdam and CMR was duly marked with damage. Reported damage to my manager expecting a bollocking. He shrugged and said accidents happen. Funny thing was we never got a claim !!!
