How tight can I turn?

New to artic driving and had to turn in a tight spot, watching the airlines getting a quite stretched, I was wondering how far u can actually go, or does it depend on the length of the airlines?

Till they go twang or the air kit meets the side of the trailer

Or tail swing on the trailer wipes summat out

What’s the air kit? Will the unit hit the trailer?

Air kit = spoilers and fairings (if your unit has them)

If you pick an airline that still uses 707’s, you might be able to get all the way to Bangalore in one hit… :arrow_right: :stuck_out_tongue:

it’s if the suzies have become tangled that will cause problems, has the effect of the lines/wires being much shorter so could rip the electrical suzies out the sockets or burst an airline

in theory you could turn as tight as you like as long as the unit doesn’t touch the trailer, there’s nothing to stop that happening

but yeah some suzies are longer than others so it just depends

Thanks daffyd.

But be carefull if at full weight 44t, also watch your tyres :unamused:

Not been carrying much weight but out of interest what could it do to the tyres, I am thinking it could drag them of the rim??

Don’t do it like this …

Try it in front of the Gaffer and see what happens lol

Wow. Looks like the leg of the trailer pieced the tank! Didn’t he do well!

I did the other day, I reversed off the weighbridge and span it round he was furious, it made me laugh at his red face.

Boris not sure how green you are. No offence but don’t do it in too higher gear ,you’ll feel daft if the drag stops you !

In reality pal, on a more serious note, u can lock it over all the way, as said, don’t let the air deflectors ( the bits of plastic you fold in/out to access your airlines hit the trailer, when u have locked it round, make sure ur lines haven’t caught on the handle that releases the curtain, so when u straighten up , it stretches the bollox out of them, and at worst when u go to turn the other way u damage or snap them.this is also a sure way of gettin ur lines greased up to ■■■■ which is my no.1 pet hate. The other thing to watch out for is what this ■■■■ has done in the clip, if the trailer is uneven, (ground or load or jerky auto box)when u go to turn out the corner the girder of the trailer hooks on something like the fifth wheel ramps, and that’s why his steering wheels wer jus pushed in a straight line. The reason these lads are on about gaffers is if your screwing the trailer around , your leaving black lines, and black lines cost money (rubber) hope that helps.

Also watch your lines if pulling a tautliner. They wrap round the ratchets if you have’nt tucked them under the curtain.Been there and done it.

Anything beyond an L shape makes more risk of damage than it’s worth and means that you’re trying to turn in a place which is too small for job.

If you’re turning that tight pull you’re air lines off and press shunt button
