To be honest fairly early on in my Driver CPC career I realised there was no point. If someone is vehemently anti Driver CPC nothing I can say will change their mind. It doesn’t help that I actually agree with some of their criticisms, it’s very badly constructed and implemented. The only thing that might start turning their opinion of it is if they did one of my courses
No, there isn’t any point, but I’d imagine that because you’re trying to offer something you feel is better than many of the standard offerings, you’re going to be bugged a lot more than I am by the pointless whinging about “it’s the same old crap”, when the real issue is that people/companies don’t bother to shop around to find something that isn’t “the same old crap”.

My reply these days to the inevitable ‘well I did the same course 5 times once*’ is to reply saying ‘why on earth would you do something so stupid?’ They don’t normally reply, mostly I suspect because the vast majority of them did nothing of the sort and if they did they suddenly realise quite how stupid they sound.
*and in fact that idiots loophole has been closed now

‘well I did the same course 5 times once*’
If proof…
Were ever needed that the whole sad and sorry mess was rushed through by quangos and backslapping business buddies, it’s this. Who signs off on a project that allows people to pass without necessarily being able to speak the language, do the same course 5 times in a row and still pass? People who obviously didn’t give a flying ■■■■ to start with.
Ok, rant over, things are better but it’s still kinda pointless that it’s attendance based only. As others have pointed out, despite how ever long it’s been going, the same clowns are still out there hitting bridges, driving up bus lanes and ending up as news stories for being wedged against walls in clearly marked shopping precincts.
I’m offering nothing new here, it’s the same argument I’ve always had against it.
Drop it to one exam (including actually driving, the very thing we get paid to do) every 4 years or so, I might have a little faith.

It’s looking very much like a partial version of that is in the offing, according to the recent consultation on DCPC
a new periodic test for renewing a DCPC is expected to last 1 to 1 and a half hours and cost in the region of £40 to £70 for each attempt. gov.uk/government/consultat … pc-changes
No driving test though, there would be some major objections to that part of it.
This consultation has concluded, but it appears DVSA/JAUPT are talking to “stakeholders” as if the result had been a foregone conclusion all along and that this is going to be a real offering in the future.
As I recall the DCPC was introduced to raise standards within the heavy vehicle driving community one of the results of which would be the respect of the general driving community. So how did that go on both counts?
As it happens I retired on the evening before the introduction of the DCPC after 45+ years. It was a good excuse to get out of the saddle.
As i drive around nowadays I have to say that some of our number need further training.

Only some? I would say a majority require more training or just having licences suspended even better…

I personally think they simply underestimated how many stupid people there are

DCPC for drivers, akin to the cycling proficiency for school kids, but at least that had a pass/fail and a shiny badge.
Ah yes because teaching kids about road safety is a terrible idea Not sure that quite makes the point you wanted it to
The cycling proficiency was so worthwhile and informative, it was sacked off years ago, it did though have a pass/fail. I’m wondering if you can shed light on how being unable to speak English and sit 35 hours of DCPC makes one professionally competent?

Think about average levels of stupidity, 50% have to be more stupid than that.

It wasn’t, still exists under another name.
It doesn’t, and while you shouldn’t have people who can’t speak language on the course there is no way of checking or checks. You keep coming out with all these issues like you’re coming out with some bombshell revelation for the first time that blows the whole thing apart, when in reality everyone knows it has some massive failings. Not like I’ve even pointed out more than once that I think that on this very thread I suppose.
You can do a CPC course if you have 35 hours already (I have). No law against it. The cpc bloke is paid to stand and deliver the course not chuck paying customers out. If companies want to send employees to one, two, three a year, they can. If the day is paid like any other work day, I personally couldn’t give a monkey’s. It saves me driving a lorry somewhere at the end of the day.
I think the biggest issue with CPC is the drivers lol.
They say it is useless and pointless while at the same time making no effort to engage in it.
It’s like being a footballer that is too lazy to kick the ball but then moaning that the game is boring.
I say that as someone who thinks CPC ■■■■■ as well.

No it ain’t though is it?
Footballers are there through choice and because they want to be…they are also extremely well paid.
None of the above apply to me when it comes to me taking a ■■■■ CPC session in my OWN time time off work that could be MUCH better spent.
I’m purely there because I have been told I can not continue in my driving career if I dont.
I have no interest in taking part , and I just want to get it over and done with each session.
Now if I WAS paid as many are I would feel different…trust me.
Call it a silent but futile protest , bordering on stupid , which is derogatory to myself, and you’d be right.
But I feel very strongly about all this sh.
It is just that I am a bit of an arse (yeh I know, hard to believe innit ) and I hate been told to, and made to, do something against my will.
It frustrates me and makes me want to lash out, so keep away from me if in same class
Hope that explains.
Now where is that anger management book I used to need.

Like I stated, the cycling proficiency was sacked off years ago. Cycling on a playground around a few cones hardly prepared kids for the real world, not dissimilar to the current box ticking DCPC with all of its many flaws.
I welcome your acknowledgment of the DCPC issues and I may be mistaken and I’m sure you will put me right if I am but I have yet to see the language issue addressed by any DCPC advocate, though you have attempted to, I must confess your reply doesn’t give me any confidence still in the shambolic DCPC.
Any compulsory “training” that allows a non English speaking candidate to be professionally competent without understanding the content is beyond belief.

You’ll never have confidence in Driver CPC, you have set your opinion probably years ago and it wont be changed so I’ve no interest in flogging that dead horse.

It doesn’t allow it, it isn’t allowed but unfortunately robust checks haven’t been implemented.
