How quickly our liberty gets taken away

It’s curious how the most vocal when telling us “don’t believe everything you read” are almost always the most hysterical in their desire to believe everything they are currently reading or being told.

I like how they assume reading tripe off the internet,is any better than reading tripe in the mainstream media.
Just somebody else’s opinion,if you ask me.
Every single thing that happens…from 9/11,madeline McCann or the bloody range rover murders…Up they pop with their"alt"version of events.
Put the internet down ffs

I went outside Halfords today.
There was an 18 year old store assistant wearing a surgical mask and gloves. They barricaded the door.
You have to tell them what you want and they fetch it for you.

When I asked why you guys going so overkill he looked shocked. Said something along the lines of “I dont want to catch the virus and die and these precautions are necessary!”
Meanwhile Tesco next door has limited 50 shoppers into the store at a time.

When I asked for some 80mm jubliee clips he had no idea what they were or what they looked like. 2minute trip to Halfords took best part of 20 minutes.

There’s a Halfrauds and Tesco in Napier■■?

Without prejudice.

That’s ok my friend,
In the mean time, have a think of what else you might could be wrong about.

Just feels very 1984ish.
I fully expect to get ripped to shreds for this but not seen this view on this forum yet so might be well worth the debate. (until questioning government propaganda becomes illegal anyway )

To be fair, you claim 1984, yet, I am sure you use a mobile, have internet, use the bank card etc … I fully agree people give up to much privacy… but when you actually do this daily , I don’t see the issues with a lock down to save lives… simple, don’t get credit, don’t use a phone, don’t have digital TV etc, or bank cards, they know where you are daily, don’t be silly, example … say you want to get a hippo, watch the adverts pop up … due to the cookie tracking on the PC or tablet … or do as I do have a VPN … I know for sure, governments track us all.

The sooner the UK goes on full lockdown like we have in NZ the better quite frankly!

We have had to leave our daughter behind in the UK, she has her own life, but we are extremely worried about her as she is immune compromised and on her own. My elderly parents, still in the UK, are doing the best they can to keep away from all the other idiots who seem happy to roam about wherever they like because they are fit and healthy, not giving a ■■■■ whether they are carriers or not, or whether they become part of the chain in spreading this virus.

So yes, I will rip you to shreds until you all fully understand the seriousness of this pandemic.

Both my partner and I are both considered essential workforce in NZ, at least she can work from home and look after our youngest. My employer has the most draconian hygiene standards anyway (being part of the food chain) but they are even stricter now, and so they bloody should be. In my working day I come into contact with many suppliers, all of whom are taking this very very seriously so I feel that a full lock down is the way to go, especially in countries like NZ or the UK where so much precedence is put on personal freedoms. If everyone plays their part instead of mingling then the spread can be stopped.

NZ are still having to tell tourists to stop travelling around the country, some of whom thought the lock down did not apply to them as they weren’t Kiwi!! NZ yesterday had its first Covid-19 related death, a woman in her 70s who rarely travelled, the connection? Tourists passing through her town.

Locally to us, a couple of bars are related to number of cases stemming from a St Patricks event, they are only just coming to light due to the incubation period. In the meantime, those persons affected prior to the lock down will have come into contact with countless other persons. God knows how many people, and then they could have then passed it on to many others, thus creating the snowball effect. Now, I am fully aware that this would still have happened as it was prior to lock down but it is a good example of why we need to, and must isolate from everyone else.

If you think a full lock down is too draconian then I suggest you put yourself in the shoes of those on the front line, who are crying out for more serious measures, then you might understand.

Oh come on mate, your getting caught up in the hysteria and openly promoting it.
The bird in Greymouth was 70 years old, had underlying chronic health issues (NZHerald) and no one knows how she contracted the disease besides being admitted to hospital 4 days earlier (ministry of health)
Your in Matamata, one of the most frequented spots on the tourist trail as people love them Hobbits. Imagine that travelers from the four corners of the globe congregating in one spot might increase the likelihood of transmission but I am not seeing roadblocks anytime soon.

I live in Napier.
We have had cruise ships berthing here every other day for months, releasing thousands of potential infections into my community. How many cases in Hawkes Bay currently?
Five.
Four flew in from overseas and went into self isolation of their own volition.

So, despite this exposure, one person in a town of 80000.

Really not that serious and certainly not a reason to throw the future of the whole region under a bus.

Hysteria? I don’t think it’s as such when health 12, 13 and 19 year olds are now dying … here in Australia. We now have 20 deaths, and mainly due to the fact people are bringing in via flights/ cruise ships etc … we are going into a form of lock down … our federal government are paying the unemployed double money for 6 months … giving $750 payments to others paying $1500 a fortnight to others to not lose a job … this pandemic is real … it’s the ignorant like yourself who think it will not kill … just like cancer this virus does not care for race, gender, wealth or health … it will take who it wants … it’s up to all to protect others.

So let me see if I have this right,
You are saying the people who dont work and have no reason to go out other than to get groceries and the like are now having their benefit payments doubled to do more of the same and Centerlink have signed off on this as a form of protection from rich foreigners.

Seems legit.

Yes, I work for NSWPF, I wouldnt say I am in the lucky country or state come to that, I am just saying there is no real liberty everything we do is tracked and monitored and a lot is self inflicted, I assure you when off duty, I dont use my phone, I prefer to use the VPN etc. call me paranoid if you like.

I don’t think it is savings lives.
I’m actually for a proper lockdown similar to China’s.
But regardless I think it is important to have a conversation about removal of liberty.
Your right about use of a VPN. I use one as well.
I hate using my phone but I need it for work.

what makes you think that anyone on here for an example of middle/bottom/working class is even remotely important enough for any government body to be even remotely interested in them except for mabey statistics,or obviously plod if they are scallys on the trot?

Information is power.
It is why Facebook is so powerful.
Look at China they keep records of everything about their citizens.

Now you could argue it is a stretch to think we will end up like China but it does show that information can be used negatively.
This is not even unique to the information age. During the cultural revoultion Mao Zedong literally had the ‘thought police’ in place and citizens had to do daily self criticisms.
Again, not likely to happen here.
But what is likely to happen is that somewhere a database that has all of someones person information is stored like in China. It only takes a change in law for this information to be used against you.

best not to be a facebook/twitter lemming fanny then.
