How much would be reasonable for HIAB training? I’ve got one quote from DLT Training :
We are able to train on the HIAB Lorry Loader under the NPORS Certification. The duration of the training is 1 day and the costs are as follows:
£430.00 + VAT (Training Fee)
£ 30.00 no VAT (CSCS Touch Screen Test)
£ 20.00 + VAT (NPORS Registration)
This seems very excessive…
That sounds excesive - I did my HIAB albeit a year ago and it was £200 took it in Manchester though so I suppose it may depend on where you are located.
I’m in Cardiff, I’m waiting for emails back from Red Dragon Training and Crosshands Training, man they’re slow at replying.
Red Dragon’s Cat C training is £600, whereas DLT charge £950. :S

Get them to quote the actual hours spent behind the wheel for their C courses, then compare - if they quote ‘days’ tell them you want hours.
Try J Coates £135.00 + VAT
You get an ITTSSAR accredited certificate
Does it matter which of these certifications I get? The NPORS or IPORS (whatever they were heh)… what’s the difference
As long as the certificate is generally recognised then I do not think it will make much difference IMO
Just done cat c with red dragon (was through another company though)
I did 3 1/2 days as that’s all that had been payed for and it was quite intense trying to cram it all into the limited time - I’d imagine you’d get the same for that price and you may find you need to pay for the test and loan of the lorry.
The rigid at red dragon’s a bit erm, warn out but it does the job well enough (I passed in it). When you get there you’ll find you meet the instructor at their office in cardiff and he’ll take you somewhere you can park for free.
One piece of advise though, ask to do the training with Steve - I had him for one day and I’d say if anyone deserves the credit for me passing it’s him! He’s a bit hyper which is a little un-nerving to start with but he’s good at what he does. My instructor (les) seemed a bit un-interested and spent a lot of time gazeing out of the window or on the phone organising his other jobs.
One final tip, whenever you stop (especially for hill starts) make sure you’re in the low range as it’s not good trying to set off uphill in fifth on your test - I was lucky to get away with it
good luck!
