From Perth to Aberdeen the police don’t give a crap about trucks. I have been passed loads by them on that road while doing 56 and never been pulled
I fear that you have missed my point!
The point is some people just want to get on with there day, and doing 56 on a dual carriageway isnt dangerous in England so it cant be in Scotland so that side of your argument is a non starter
Thing is…it’s illegal in Scotland…hence my original question, what exactly is the incentive to risk your driving licence for an employer who will probably find you become ‘useless’ to him if you lose it?
I could have used an A-road as an example, as there seems to be just as many racing drivers on them too…& I’m sure that aint ‘safe’ in England ether.

i have not missed the point. It’s illegal yes but if the police won’t pull you then why sit at 50. These trucks have loads better stopping distance than when these laws where brought out.
Drivers would strike for better pay, then you’d have people ducking out if their boss told them higher wages means a DAF CF…

A very true statement.
Once knew a lad that got his class 1 then got offered a job driving a 4 series 420 doing similar work as us. £360 a week was the wage. Making ends meet was included lol. Chuffed as punch he was being the big time Charlie in his fanny magnet. Tried too tell him to poke it,but no.
I was coming out with 475/500 at the time in my rickety 3 series 360 doing bulk work. Get home handle fitted. OK 4/5 nights out but a braw wage in 98.
He lasted 1 year before he realised.
All lights, bells and fancy curtains don’t make u money. Just my c##k is bigger than urs status symbols.

I just hope you’re being well rewarded for your dedication, cos if you’re hourly paid, you’re cutting your own overtime!
Maybe you can answer my original question by telling all of us why you choose to/need to ignore the speed limit & what thanks & reward does your employer bestow upon you for keeping his wages bill down?
Dave000:
No one but you seems to care. Get me 100 drivers and I bet 99% have broken the speed limit.
Yeh we have but your attitude suggests you don’t give a ■■■■ about your licence.
Btw does your firm pay speeding fines? If the answer is no you are either very dedicated to your firms’ income or a bit dim.
I’m in the 99% you mention but I only do it when it suits ME, mainly end of week when on way home, certainly not all the time, and definitely not to make my boss a couple more quid.
If I get points then it is for me, not taking one for the co.

I see you are in Yorkshire not exactly a county that tops the pay leagues for haulage in the UK as several threads on here would testify so I would say your job is bit of an exception rather than the rule.
Actually for Hull its the going rate. For Goole, Doncaster, Leeds etc its a couple of quid an hour low.
Dipper_Dave:
Should be able to stretch that out to a 12 or even 13 at a push Conor…
At the rate the diversions are screwing up the job there’s going to be no need to stretch it out this week to do 12/13. A1 shut J46-48 either north or south depending on night, from Leeming Bar up past Scotch Corner to A66M northbound and southbound and we can’t use our favourite back road shortcut through Northallerton up to Darlington because the A1 is closed both ways from Scotch Corner to the A66M. To add insult to injury the A66 eastbound is closed from Barnard Castle to Scotch Corner as well the rest of the week on nights so its a right old magical mystery tour.
M62/M61/M6 route is the other viable alternative but its 4hrs 15m so it only takes a minor hiccup on that either way and you’re into double break territory.
Double Break would not be a problem - if it were not for the advent of 55-60 hour weeks instead of 35-40 hour ones.
It seems to me that actually PLANNING drivers to work extended hours - with no room for manuveur should things then “go wrong” on top of those base hours - is the base of a multitude of sins in this industry.
“Nights Out” for jobs that are not dedicated trampers should be a rareity.
“Nights out” is a fiddle in that it pays less than minimum wage per hour.
15 hour shifts should never be required of someone who’s not paid by the hour.
As for the “ten hour nights” rule. F—knows how that gets interpreted in a manner that leaves it “against the law” in one yard, and “totally ok” in another, as is the interpretation of POA…

I don’t really give a toss either, it’s their licence. If they can knock an hour off their working day & save their employer a few £££’s, then well done.
All I wanted to know, was what the rewards for reducing your own overtime & risking penalty points was. Don’t confuse that with caring!
I did a 15 yesterday (ohhhh get me showin off), could have done another today but choose a 14 1/4 instead. Mainly coz im tired (made a captains decision on the tiredness as second wind hadnt kicked in) also wanted a shower and a few bottles of beer and its ‘Tribbin Tuesday’.
3 hour tip yesterday so may save my only 13 for Friday as it may lead to a little run in Sat.
Long hours this trampin lark. No commutin though so thats a bonus, just need to get a life and im sorted, well apart from not havin anytime to live it.
Still cant believe they pay me to do this.

Probably the same drivers you see trying to manouvre artics around busy roundabouts with a phone perched to their ears. Can never understand why vocational drivers risk their livelihoods by getting points on their licenses, for no real reason?

I spend most of my week in Scotland and with the exception of supermarket trucks most people ignore the limit wether that be S/C or D/C
Many posts above “It’s legal in the rest of the UK, so can’t be dangerous in scotland”
When I get pulled for 130mph in my car on the motorway, pull the Ace of spades from my sleeve “It’s legal in Germany (Part of the EU), so it can’t be Dangerous in the UK Orficher!”

When I get pulled for 130mph in my car on the motorway, pull the Ace of spades from my sleeve "It’s legal in Germany
But the A1 doesnt turn into an autobahn at Berwick does it , no it stays the same road with the same surface and the same white lines but the limit drops by 10mph , thats the argument re safety , bringing a german motorway into to the debate is ridiculous

No the surface is no different, but the law is… The autobahn argument is valid IMO, or at least as valid as the uneducated arguments made here by others. I would love to see that point argued in a sheriffs court.
56 in a 40 is 140% of the speed limit, as is 98 in a 70 limit.

That was the point I was alluding to.
I agree the law is the law, my point was that its not unsafe to do 56mph on a dual carriageway in Scotland, illegal yes but unsafe? No
