how many

how many hgv drivers are registered in the uk?
how many are over the age of 63?
how many driver qualification cards have been issued?

will there be a shortage of hgv drivers after the september 2014 dcpc deadline?

Anyone between the ages of 60-65 is anticipated NOT to bother getting their DCPC, and yet we’re being told by the government that we’re all going to work until we drop these days…

The average driver age isn’t getting any younger that’s for sure!

At the front end, you’ve got inexperienced drivers who cannot get work without experience, but cannot get a full time job because there are so few around. Perhaps that will change post-deadline.

‘Our’ old fella retires at the end of September as he will be 70. He’s done 4 parts of the DCPC and our last 7hrs comes up in November but he won’t be attending, not even ‘just to get the card in case i fancy a days work sometime!’. He runs down to Paddock Wood depot 5 nights/wk (for a good wage), tips, returns, parks and goes home. So if ya fancy a job thats easier than mine, get ya names in, as the queue is growing fast as word spreads!!

The Turks will take up any slack, there are plans afoot to allow them easier access to EU countries even though they’re not members. When you voted recently for Lab/Con/Lib this is what you voted for.
