How many vandalised speed cameras have you seen?

Quite a collection here:

speedcam.co.uk/gatso2.htm

Torched, driven into, sawn off, stolen, lenses covered with paint or stickers, shot at and even blown up with dynamite! (p3 middle)

Love the wheelie bin one bottom of page 2 and there’s the odd nice photo too like bottom of p3.

I’m shocked that so many cameras have been damaged to be honest. And I know for a fact that it isn’t a complete record. There are two Gatsos on the A17 between Sutton Bridge and Holbeach that have been burned out for the last two years at least.

There’s also a new camera in Whaplode between Holbeach and Spalding that has been burned a couple of times… but must be profitable because they keep replacing it!

Must get my camera out and ride round, try to get some pictures of paint drying!

The one at Swineshead is in full working order, saw someone get flashed last week.

One on A52 west of Grantham was replaced and the near the chicken factory at Grantham was repaired last year.

How many vandalised speed cameras have you seen?

Nowhere near enough

Why not just spray paint the lenses?

I don’t mind camera so much I want to see a list of burnt out speed camera vans :smiling_imp:

I think most damage is caused by drivers who have been flashed, and its probably damaged to destroy any film or evidence, they used to be a deterrent at one time, but now theyre used as a means to collect revenue, seeing as the bodies who operate and control them can keep all of the cash. I have been flashed a couple of times in the past but am wary when i see the warning signs, so they can make a difference, however, good luck to anyone who vandalises them, and puts them out of action, although, its tax payers who foot the bill, i dont mind contributing.

I did make a statement once to say that if i win the lotto, i will buy an ex army truck ( the ones with a hole in the roof ) and just tour to damage all and every speedcam i could find, for obvious reasons, i would only do night work.

The mobile vans are dangerous most of them sit in awkward spots which cause a obstruction take up lay-bys and whine about you if you try to park in there

There was one in Bletchley Milton Keynes once that had it’s box cut off with a welding torch  they had then driven off with it :grimacing:

The ones on the A619 from jcn 30 M1 towards Worksop have been attacked in the past with no luck… money seems to be no object when it comes to replacing them, it was national speed limit at one time now its 50.mph, theres talk of it being lowered to 40mph, see what happens then, they should paint them black and white …cash cow.

There is a way around that, depending on how you want to play it.
If you get flashed off a gatso, you get the fixed penalty in the post, usually £60 and 3 points.
If you fill out the form and pay your dough, the Speed Camera Partnership / Police gets that money.

BUT… if you opt to go to court, wait for your summons the plead guilty by post, you still get the same £60 fine, 3 points and a nominal court fee, usually £25 costs.
This way though, that money goes to the court system, not the speed camera pratnership. because the SCP are not a ‘victim’, they don’t get a cut of the dosh. The court gets it all.

I’ve been zapped a couple of times and both times opted for court, I’d rather pay £25 extra to the courts than have the SCP profit from me.

That does not make fiscal sense!

In Aylesbury (Bicester road, Rabans Lane) I saw the speed camera there had some “adult images” stuck over the lens, bet the photo processor liked to check that picture out!
Before they were removed (by the “Partnership”) the cameras between Burford and Cheltenham on the A40 were attacked regularly. Best one I saw was at the Barrington turn (The Inn for All Seasons) where a Peugeot 405 was reversed upto it and torched.
A mate upset a scamera van man in the gated layby by Raf Brize Norton; We had to use layby to get escorted to a site and my mate parked behind the van. Cue the little git threatening him with obstruction, until an RAF cop came over, armed and told him to go and ■■■■ himself, as he was on MOD land and had no jurisdiction.

A lot of the work at Brize is done now, but AFAIA the van hasn’t been seen since.

How could it possibly be obstruction?!

Because he parked right behind scamera van, albeit on security mans’ instructions.
