How many points on your licence (poll)?

Winseer:
More zero pointers than I would have expected…

Yeah I’m surprised how many have allways had a clean licence, I was obviously an idiot

My brother used to think I was only in the Union to pay my fines

In 33 years I have achieved a total of 6 points overall , all for speeding, unfortunately both 3 pointers were within a month or so of each other- first on a back road out of Lincoln at 3.30 am where for no apparent reason a national speed limit reduces to a 40mph for about 500 yards , the second for speeding in a 30 mph limit through roadworks, the speed limit was put in to protect the work force , and I was the work force and the last guy on site removing the last of the plant before the traffic management guys turned up next day to remove the cones :unamused: all now long gone off my licence and I now always drive in a correct and totally legal manner , honest

One endorsement for a going over an amber traffic light in 1978,which is when I learn’t that amber means stop just the same as red,and 3 points in 2007 for doing 82 mph in a 70 limit on the A31.As to the question of having a clean licence the rest of the time sometimes being more a case of luck rather than judgement no comment.

3pts for 37 mph in a 30mph limit abt a year ago,in car, amazed it was only 37 mph, long day ,tired and just wanted to get home.

There has been numerous threads on here about the 40mph legal limit, ie. those that stick to it and those that choose to ignore it stating they would rather… “crack on” consequently risking losing their licences :open_mouth:. I wonder if there is any correlation between the results on this thread and the two mentioned groups. If I could be arsed I would look back and check, but I can’t so I won’t  , but I would bet that there would be a pattern there somewhere.
As for me I was forever up to the points limit in the 80s as an owner/driver, but have had a clean licence for last 20yrs or so, (and being paid by the hour that is no coincidence :bulb:) being older and wiser (and lucky in some cases) and seeing the job for what it really is now  .

Currently no points on my licence altho had 3 come off my shadow licence in the summer so all clean now, as for the 40mph argument it is just pure luck know of some people who on the A75 have never been done for speeding and others who have been caught 2 or 3 times and if you can get away with it there then your chances increase greatly on other less policed roads

Got up to 9 a few years ago, all work related! Then I got speed cameras on the sat nav and none scince. They never caused me any problems even with insurance. Two lots were SP20 and one was a TS10.Most insurance companies are quite reasonable as long as you declare the points.

8 in 02 for no insurance (only added on the final year for some strange reason after I’d already got a driving job, thought id get sacked but they didn’t), 3 for speeding, 3 for crossing the line on a red light on a wet road (which really upset me so now I deliberately go though red when it’s quiet & there’s no camera to get my pennies worth), 3+3 put on someone else’s licence & now I’m awaiting more, great…:frowning: Otherwise clean.

Clean now but I have had 6. All of which are long gone even though I now have a high performance car :smiling_imp:

Zero for me, although I should have had three in 1994 :sunglasses: but the halfwits never sent it to court and wrote on my licence 3 pts and £60 fine IN PENCIL! thank you! :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing: mind you the copper who came up to the left ■■■■■■ couldn’t find me at first, as the girlfriend at the time was sitting in the passenger side with no steering wheel, had a sense of humour! he said " I must warn you, my colleague would like a word, and it’s his first DAY ON TRAFFIC! :unamused: " I replied " that’s me DONALD then! "
Gets to jam butty and he says " in a rush drive? " " no ! " I say. " ok, I’ll do you at 74.9 mph" says copper " I’ve not been out the house an hour " I proclaim, no sense of humour that new boy. I was more miffed when we had two licences, and they took our BIG HGV 1 away giving us twelve points like the motorists who drive cars! :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing:

3 on mine 34 in a 30 on a long down hill stretch of road just lifted of the brakes to let them cool a bit and speed just creped over

Clean liscence at the mo but I’m awaiting a fine. Was a little over the limit on the a31 3 weeks ago Saturday I’m just hoping the speed van was fixed on the car infront before I braked. Every night I come home expecting the letter but so far so good .

9 points on mine last 3 were for going 36 round the ring road in norwich at 2am.got to be careful now

None in 40 yrs driving, I’ve come close a time or two but never been nicked  , I did once get a parking ticket but they got the reg.number wrong  , guess I’ve just been lucky cos’ I’m not a dead on strict 40 mph on A roads. Had a camera flash me once or twice in Holland on the motorbike but never heard anything.
I reckon someone else has had my share !

I seem to have a rolling system of 3 off 3 on since getting stopped in my first car because the exhaust was hanging off 20 years ago. I would have 6 now, but went on a speed awareness course 2 years ago. Obviously none of these points were my fault, it’s always been the police hassling me for no reason instead of catching “real” criminals

Currently have 3 points (the only HGV related ones I’ve ever had) for 45 on the s/c near Hexham, but years ago due to my err “enthusiastic” motorcycle riding style I had many years of receiving 3 points every other June! Because I refused to pay to have spent ones removed it became a battle of wills between me and the DVLA as the space ran out on my licence, the first points were written big and bold, but towards the bottom of the page the writing got progressively smaller and smaller!

I could always have just faked an address change of course, but that would have been giving in to them! :imp:

My fun ended when I turned 45 and had a medical. Hey ho.

None, but on a visit to the UK a few years back I drove a rented car at 120 MPH up the A 43 Brackley to Silverstone and triggered a speed camera, however as I had a US licence and a hired car I was not charged but did get a letter from Avis advising me about the incident, the next year I got it to 125 MPH at the same spot
I also drove through that stupid congestion zone in London in a rented VW Passat and got a letter about that too

ROG:
Back in the 80s I got the full 12 points and had to plead in court to keep licence

3x3 points for speeding - all done deliberately in a 7.5 tonner
3 points for parking over 2 feet of zig zag lines when the snow was thick on the ground - cop had a shovel and I did not !

As the snow incident was the last of the 12 the magistrate took pity and let me keep licence

Got another 3 points in the early 90s for a red light (40 limit on A12 in outer London)- never seen a light go from amber to red so fast !!

nothing since

Pity, would of banned you for [zb] life, I agree we all make mistakes but repeating is no excuse 3 x for speeding, i bet you was running bent in truck also huh … as for zig zag highway code you should know not to park within 20/25 metres of lights or zebra with zig zags no excuses whether snow or not!

Yes there is a lot of no pointers maybe we’re a bit more professional than we make out.

All this nil, none, nada is bollox and so is this still clean licence after 150 years tripe.

Some have points and some, unfortunately, are banned and there but for the grace of god go all of us.Sometimes your lucky and other times not.

As with all things a short time can bring many changes.Ask not for whom the bell tolls it tolls for thee my friend.
