Answer here
In this technological age, why do we need to carry a card to say we have completed 35hrs of periodic training. Surely when they do a licence check at the roadside, it should be able to show this in the DVLA system.
Or is it just designed to be a cash generating scheme like the rest of the DCPC?
I can only think its because we don’t have to carry our driving licences. They need the photo card to prove you are who say you are.
If we had to carry driving licences, we could just show DCPC entitlement on them. I understand that’s how its done in those countries where you do have to carry your licence, but correct me if I’m wrong.
But then, why do we need the paper driving licence as well as the card? Why can’t they encrypt all the info on the card?

I agree with all that
Lets have the same laws they do in most other countries - carry driving licence when driving anything
Forget 7 day producers because technology can get the info more quickly - that means the paper part is useless

And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads, and that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name. Revelation 13:16-17

That’s the first ever recorded mention of a credit card.
No, it’s the use of a mobile phone!
Read the later bit about “sores appearing upon those with the mark in their wrists and upon their heads” - Tumours?
I did now 1 Day. The Legal things.
The Chap was quit confident and it wasn’t boring at all. He also did know more then me,and alone that shall say everything
It don’t apply to old gits with acquired rights (those who don’t have to have it until Sept next year).

Your wrong. In France we have to carry our licence and our CPC card. And for a full list of countries that issue cards, see here.
Page 5 and 6 give details of all the european countries, those who issue a card and those who put the code 95 on the driving licence.

At the end of all debates, the why’s and wherefors, there will be no one any the wiser about how to drive a truck by sitting listening to someone who as probably gained his knowledge the night before from a computer. driving is gained by practical experience , and nothing else,The DCPC is , as Damoq says nothing but a cash generator for the government.
The article title is misleading.
it should include the word ‘initial’ before DCPC.
No, because it includes figures for September…since Sept 11 all PCV drivers have required a DCPC, even the ‘acquired rights’ drivers. Indeed, if you were to be really picky you could even argue that drivers with both PCV and LGV ‘acquired rights’ entitlements nave required a DCPC, even if just driving an LGV.
GasGas, as a journalist, should you be starting a sentence with ‘And’?
That was a quote from the Bible, and if it’s OK with God, it’s OK with me!
Doesn’t the bible also say something about 2 wrongs not making a right?
There’s no reason you shouldn’t start a sentence with “and”. And that’s all there is to it.
