frank you wasnt in 4regt by any chance where you?

That’s right Pete, Joined them in Germany, Catterick, Nuneaton 2 yrs (Junior Leaders), Aldershot then civvie street, also had two older Brothers and a younger Brother in 4th, he also became a driver then an OD, packed it in to become a Paramedic. How do you know 4th Pete? Franky.

Frankydobo:
Having said that most drivers after 1945 were ex forces and had good experience of driving in different conditions and terrain and became the old sweats of the 60’s, it seemed to change by the late Sixties/Seventies and ex forces drivers didn’t account for the majority in a firm, not sure why. Franky.

Hello Franky, maybe this had something to do with the end of National Service which finished in 1960.

How do you know 4th Pete?

spent 9 years in 4 regt mate (1993-2002) 97 battery hence ive more mates up the north east area than on merseyside…

skids:

5RRF:
10 years Royal regiment of Fusiliers (5RRF) leaving present G10 watch still on a 1033!.

Good skills! Trust you’ve got a regimental watch ■■■■■■■■ it?

No matey just issue grey still find it funny that you have to sign a watch out then the strap!

5RRF:
‘… still find it funny that you have to sign a watch out then the strap…!’

And, if memory serves correctly, that three NATO numbers are needed - totalling 29 digits and nine hyphens, to then construct a broom (assuming that one already has a screwdriver!) :exclamation:

…and they wonder why the defence budget goes through the roof.

I heard on the radio that there are seventeen qualified Captains/Commanders for each Warship in the Fleet. I wonder if they will be near the front of the queue for the next round of redundancies?

I was down there when the wind was so bad it destroyed half of the Byron heights station. They had nothing large enough to fly down a new station so chartered an Antonov, that was quite an impressive sight!
Mount Adam was a bit on the bleak side as well! 3 Royal Signals lads in a portacabin on top of a mountain for 4 months. We did a resupply to them of fresh rations, mail and videos. The Cpl in charge got a Dear John, 1 of the young lads got no mail at all and they had seen all of the videos!
Would love to know how/when/why they had a red phone box at Mount Alice.

And there’s more Wing Commanders in the RAF than there are aircraft! :open_mouth:

Ha ha, small world after all. I done my last six months with 97, 29 before that, you might have known my older brother Ernie, he done his 22 and BSM when he finished in Osnabruck. I done about seven years in the TA with him later, 101 regt, they were short of HGV drivers and he pursuaded me to join, quite enjoyed being a gun driver, Foden and FH70. happy days!

Scanny77, had two good years in Bramcote 75/77 and they used to do the Lorry Driver of the Year finals then in the camp, looked forward to that, I was a Regimental Copper so had to help set most of it up, made a change from the usual military stuff. Franky.

I was there when an Argy 747 carrying visiting war widows landed. The pilot hadn’t been told about the severe cross winds on the runway. As he came into land, a gust nearly flipped the plane, he slammed the plane down so hard, you could hear the tyres screaming for grip from over 2 miles away!!! I was stood on the end of the runway waiting to ■■■■■■ the plane back to the arrivals lounge. I almost filled my undercrackers at the sight of this massive plane heading straight towards us at a fair rate of knots!! :open_mouth: The widows got out and kissed the tarmac once the plane came to a halt.

I’m ex-REME Reccy Mech, 80-86. Had a great time, 1 of my biggest regrets was only doing 6 years.

I’ve got a cousin who was a reccemech about that time, his last unit was Detmold.

Probably 4 Armd Wksp then, i was there 85-85.

You might know him then. Scouse Rushton, lanky string of pish, bad attitude, swallow tattoo on his neck.

Name doesn’t ring a bell, but that could be down to my age mate.

My last year i spent most of the time in a tracksuit, i was the Unit & Corps goalkeeper & the CO at the time was keen to win the Army Cup, all the football side were on full-time footy training.
