How many of us are ex forces?

I must be a glutton for punishment. I started off in the TA then joined the regs and finished off as an ACF instructor for 3 years until I got fed up of wearing green!

now why does this thread remind me of the arrse forum

Dave the Renegade:
I was bollocked by a squadron leader in 1965   .

I got bollocked regularly by a Flight Lieutenant, a Squadron Leader and later a Wing Commander. He was my Dad, mind…

Dunno then?:
With rememberance day coming up I was just wondering how many of us are ex forces?

So… What percentage of us are? I’m 100% of one! lol

Don’t understand - are you suggesting TA service doesn’t count ?
regards
Steve

No, the first line is a direct quote from the op,if you took the trouble to look, Secondly, when I responded it was thus! Thirdly, where did I exclude, include or even reference the TA? Or in my service the RNR? :open_mouth:

RAF Regiment. 1981 to 2003. Best years of my life

We’re probably all on there as well. There are more ex forces on here than I realised.

I met him!

AFAIK Polish army still chases me, even though we don’t have national service any more, but since I wasn’t interested when it was mandatory they can’t stamp me as “served his duty” and put my file to the archives…

So in a way I am still of interest for the army…

Does it counts? :grimacing:

A few years back when there was a driver shortage, it was claimed that 1 of the reasons for the shortage was the SDR of the early 90’s as the forces was the single biggest contributer of drivers to the industry.

I’m on ARRSE, can be quite entertaining sometimes but can also be quite tedious.

Agreed, arrse is a very good forum. It’s probably the biggest forum i’m a member of. It can be tedious, it can be very serious, but it’s members are the salt of the earth. They take no prisoners in the NAAFI which can be very close to the knuckle and highly amusing.

Did my (extremely little) bit in the Cold War in the early seventies  , sometimes keeping a snow covered runway in West Germany open in the middle of the night so that Battle Flight could get airborne.
I wonder if I ever drove a young Lucy on the school bus to Kent School near Rheindahlen

I did hear that Chris Webb was a Pikeman in the R.A.F. it was a bit before my time and he dosen’t like to talk about it.

Royal Navy - Jack Dusty - (Blanket Stacker) 1967 - 2001
34 years (28 in Submarines) and only one medal (long Service & Bar) Always managed to find a handy dry dock when there was a war on. See the young lads now with rows of medals and think I escaped just in time.

Did a bit of fighting in Nam in 69 -

Fair play, I’m from a naval family but went down the army route. I watched the recent tv documentary series on HMS Turbulent and there is no way I could have been a submariner. Take my hat off to you!
