closest I ever got was the army cadets.
It was an amazing three years to be honest not many thirteen year olds could say they had fired gpmg’s or Sa80’s at the weekend or been out flying ‘nap of the land’ in a chinook with the door open
I always enjoyed going to school on a monday

I thought in Salford, 13 year olds just got drunk and drove cars at speed.
ps, I’m from the other side of Manchester, another quaint little village on the outskirts of the buzzing metropolis of Manchester,
Wythenshawe

I’m Ex RAF MTD, spent 22 years in and came out jun 01, Spent a lot of those years on Aircraft Refuellers and Harrier / Helecopter force. Spent my last years at Stafford on the Artics and training people on the Tankers, Got called a “Scab” by some firemen when training lads to cover for the fuel strike (the lads were going to cover fuelling hospital and emergency services tanks and we didnt have the choice whether we done it or not), got no time for the fire men now.
im ex 5th regt royal artillery got out late oct 04

One of my 8 uncles, who all served, was a bit like that!! He came home after WW2, after being “missing” for 3 years covered in medals from just about every Allied Force possible. His Mum (my Gran) went to the Police Station cos she was so concerned he may not be entitled to wear them (which is a criminal offence). The Police reported back later that day, he was entitled to wear every single medal he had … which included the Croix De Guerre, Legion D’Honneur … and some big ones from the Canadians, Yanks and Australians. He had this massive sword from the French. For many years after, he was always popping off to France and coming back with newspaper cutting of himself and De Gaulle at some posh do lol Mind you, after that, he was quite ■■■■■■ mad!! PMSL
I did my time with the RCT, and wouldnt have missed it for the world. Best years of my life. I think some of you may have misunderstood Conor
s comments. I have to agree with what he says, as one of my previous jobs involved collecting all the waste chemicals from the camps at Aldershot. I wasnt impressed with the general standards I saw, but I won
t take away from them what theyve done in the Gulf recently, as they
ve proved that when the time comes, the British Forces do a generally good job. I used to speak to a lot of the longer-serving soldiers, and to a man, they all said that their hands were tied to a certain extent, as they weren`t allowed to shout at those under their command
