How many miles....

… do you think you’ve actually done in reverse (in an artic) in your career?

Is it more than an average car driver does in their life?

Average car does very roughly 10k miles a year? 200 miles a week.
.

Truck driver works for 40 or 50 yrs?
How much driving in reverse?
I have done, very rarely, a half mile or so reverse, but more often much less.
Maybe site tippers or local drops would do ?200? metres 5 times a day?? That’s half a mile a day. 150 miles a yr. 6,000ml over a lifetime.
.
So someone approaching retirement, might have done more in reverse, than some who passed their car test 6 months ago has done forward?
.
.
All very rough approximations.

OP and…

First response are obviously both box jockeys, cos you appear to have waaaay too much time your hands.

Wow…I’d need to think about that one.

Just thought about it, and.came up with…

I don’t care, even in the slightest.
Cheers.

And no, car drivers go forward at an average of 46mph so in about 20 minutes they have gone further forward than I have gone in reverse.

I hope you do no become offended with my honest opinion.
Good day, fine sir.

Hanging around sometimes?
Yeah, but not boxes.

Random question.
I’d say on and off a couple bays a day and around yard parkingn in service’s
I’d say around 1.5 miles x a day x 5 so 7 half miles a week maybe.

Has to be more than a car driver. As All.they do.is reverse off there drive if have one. Or out of a supermarket space and that’s it

1.5 miles in reverse every day? That’s an awful lot of reversing. Typical reverse onto a bay or parking space would be what - 40 yards? You’d be doing over 60 such manoeuvres every day…

Just to clarify, I meant a car driver in forward gears.

Nice one.

I got stuck on a bay overnight at Tesco once and was talking to a very interesting guy beside me who also was chalked off for the night. As all site movement had to stop so we could get a good nights sleep (7 police cars enforced this!) . Anyhoo he told me that if you reverse it actually subtracts driving time from your card! Ever since and if I’m nearing my fortnightly total I spend two or three days reversing everywhere! I don’t get to places very quickly but I’ve never had an hours infringement, so he obviously knew his onions.

Wow cheers mate, never heard of that before. I’ll have to remember it when we do Folwer Welshki subbying at Christmas. Some good tips in there for those who max out driving hours.
