How many hours driving to pass test

well only yesterday i lost my job and decided to go back to my old plan of doing my hgv licence so booked theory for next week and driving for the 28th july 2014 class 2 then class 1 once past. How ever my question to you all is for a person who has drove high milage in a car and van is 15 hours behind the wheel of a class 2 enough time to be able to pass the test.

yes, four hours a day for four days then test on fith seams to be standard for most places.

Sorry to hear you lost your job!

As for the question of how many hours training is required, there are some nice guys (trainers) on here that should be able to help you with that. I’m also a newbie looking at doing my LGV, and I suspect the guys will say that everyone is different and that is what an assessment drive is for. Best of luck!

You probably know that there is no shortage of drivers and that the adverts for earnings of £30K are not the norm for newbees.Even agencies in some parts of the Country wont take you on without 2 years experience.Have you considered bus driving as the big firms sometimes train their new starts?

No real answer to be honest . some people will walk it with min hours then you have some that could spend years ( I kid you not) getting that valued piece of paper

There ARE companies that will take you on if you pass. Where are you doing your lessons?

Im living in Spalding seems to be lots of work for class 1 drivers up hear spoken to quite a few companies now and many of them have said they will start new driver and my age helps being 45 my last job i had to live it 24/7 so to work 8 to 15 hours a day would be a breath of fresh air. As for money i would think 24k would be about right and i can live on that as the wife is the person who earns the money in my house (good on her)

I live in Spalding too mate and I ■■■■ you not, you could walk into a new job every day for a fortnight around that way there! Literally EVERY company is taking on drivers, money isn’t great per hour, but the hours are big. I expect to earn about £31k+ on my p60 next year + sustenance payments.

Good luck, also before you part with any money I know of an employer that will put you through the test pm me if your interested.

What an offer! - Obviously you would have to expect/assume some conditions on that if you chose not to work for that employer after passing. But sounds like a no brainer!!!

Don’t suppose you know any employers in the Southampton area like that? LOL :grimacing:

Maybe I don’t know, they are a national employer. The training is done in Lincolnshire though.

I think the terms are the usual stuff, must stay for 2 years blah blah, but I’ve not read them so don’t know what else is in there.

I would expect something like that, and ties you down to a job that MIGHT allow you to be abused. Thanks for replying, but will pass due to location considerations alone. Cheers though!
