I know this doesn’t apply to the OP as he is salaried, the law now states that holiday pay for hourly paid workers must be based on there average pay over the last 12 weeks, where before you were just entitled to you’re basic hours whilst on holiday you should now not lose out if taking a holiday.Only when overtime is compulsory though.
Overtime is not compulsory under UK law, you cannot be legally forced to work beyond you’re contracted hours my hours are 42.5 week I can complete them in 4 days easily and take the 5th day of if I choose to do so, one of the benefits of EU membership make the most of it while it lasts.
Surely it depends what it says in the terms of your contract?
ACAS don’t appear to agree with your assertion:
Overtime
Overtime is normally hours that are worked above the normal full time hours, normal working hours are the hours mentioned in the terms of employment. Overtime can be voluntary or compulsory. Compulsory overtime would form part of the terms and conditions of employer (sic). There is no legal right to be paid extra for any overtime worked, this may be detailed in the terms of employment.
Also, the Government view on compulsory overtime is outlined here:

I’m paid and planned for a 9 hr shift but transport being transport sometimes I run over but obviously can’t really do much about that unless I bring the undelivered load back which lets face it ain’t going to happen so therefore that’s why our lot pay average pay for annual leave and sick pay. I could of course park up when hitting my 9 hrs but again not realistic is it .
Me personally had 199 days, unfortunately they where unpaid but very enjoyable. I know it is an old post but I just like to brag,

Which RDC did Mad Mick or Dangerous Dave the Herald dodging SAS vet tell you that tale in ?
My holidays are from April to late October. Just like to gloat now and then.
20 paid days leave plus bank holidays and the occasional Swedish bank hol due working for a Swedish company.
His full week is 4 days so when he has a weeks holiday its 4 days but thats a full week, he is not been done he is getting the very same as someone who gets 28 days as there week is 5 days
Do many firms let you take extra days over the top of your allowance as unpaid holiday? I get 28 days including bank holidays but that isn’t enough! My lot let me take extra days unpaid pretty much whenever I like, I’m starting to look round for other jobs but this flexibility is something I would very much miss!

The 1970’s factory holidays took some beating.2 weeks closure over Christmas which didn’t affect the 20 days holiday entitlement plus all the other bank holidays.
Also my last night trunking job was great with 20 days to start increasing to 25 after I think from memory it was 5 years but might have been 10 all not including bank holidays. In addition to them having no problem with taking long periods in the summer as a block.
On that note I don’t remember any holiday entitlement anywhere ever being calculated on the basis of including bank holidays. Which sounds like a new thing.
