How low is a driver in the scheme of things

A lot of drivers can’t stack stuff properly and a lot can’t spell never mind count!

Maybe not as mad as you think.

drivers are not employed as stackers or spellers or counters, so why do you think they should be able to do these jobs  do all the stackers and spellers and counters also drive LGVs

You completely missed my point!

When I said a lot of drivers cannot stack stuff properIy I was referring to shedding loads.
When i said about spelling I was talking about some on this forum and presumably their counting is as bad.

I was lucky enough to get decent well paid jobs throughout my driving years and I put that down to having these basic skills and knowing how to be pleasant and well mannered…most of the time.

just remember albion that everyone is not as high and mighty as you in the literacy and numeracy world.

How hard is it…Drive truck, put on bay, unload, job done :grimacing:

tosses such as you will always work for peanuts and never get a wage rise. thank you from the rest of the drivers
what a walker you are
■■■■ the boss off once a week I suppose too

The thing is a lot of jobs are just that. Container work tends to be lower hourly rate but max hours as it is litrealy that wheras driving a crane lorry involves a lot more so will tend to be a better rate.

No. But they’re prerequsites to the job sureley? Would you employ a driver who could not stack, spekl and count ?

green456:
do all the stackers and spellers and counters also drive LGVs

No. Looks like they also get about 70 pence per hour less too because they can’t !!

How ironic…

Yes that is blatantly obvious on this forum.

a girl I’m seeing does 10pm-7am stacking shelves at waitrose. she pulls in £90 a shift and does the sunday for double bubble.

she does this every day too.

You can’t be seeing that much of her then!

not trying to say anything. Skitt’s law said it. And no I can’t do better, I’m just a driver.

Its compensation because its such a dull boring job going nowhere.

I notice you only highlighted the glaringly obvious typo and not the other more subtle spelling mistakes.

Better than if she donned a pair of trackie bottoms and shuffled off to the Social Club For The Terminally Useless (Jobcentre). I bet she’d be better looked after by Waitrose, long term than most of us.

your arrogance knows no bounds does it

Problem is, any muppet with a pair of eyes can pass the test but becoming a pro takes a decade. So they pay £6.50 odd to someone who will more than likely write the wagon off at some stage & the pros get told, soz shag, we’ve got loads of “drivers” queuing for the jobs.

Class 1 wages will go up in the next few years until the government realises that their rich mates are taking the hit on labour rates then they’ll let Turkey in to the EU & have the 747’s parked on the tarmac ready to go.

I’d call it sarcasm. But if it takes a weeks course or so and 2K to put you a cut above every shelf stacker (who are just normal people doing a needed job), and if you’re not expected to spell, stack and count where does that leave us ?..“i don’t know mate,i’m just employed to drive, see here…it says i’m a driver” ?

I just love the rhetoric from some drivers, and their slogans…“without trucks you wouldn’t have it”,
although what it is they wouldn’t have and just how many might be beyond the grasp of “just a driver”.
Also you could take a similar slant from a shelf stackers point of view…“without us, you’d have to go in the back of a truck or a warehouse to get it” ! And the way supermarkets are going with automated tills, it may only be a matter of time before thats rolled out ?

Forget me waffling, you found a spelling mistake  Good man, i won’t do that agian !!

Reality is you can get a HGV license in a week, or get one stuffed in your demob envelope if you leave the armed forces…

Over 30 million people in the UK have a driving license. Hundreds of thousands without hgv licenses regularly tow caravans, boats, horse boxes, car carrying trailers and builders trailers without incident.

What is it lorry drivers do that is different to someone making deliveries in a Fiesta sized van?

That is not a critique, but how many employers see it. Anyone can drive a truck - right?
