How long will it be before we go from being tollerated during the lockdown to being the lowlife scum we are in the eyes of the public generally? I’m guessing it will be a couple of weeks at most, may phone Ladbrokes and see what the odds are.
Yeah funny how everyone hates truckers one minute and worships them the next.

Surely you don’t have to ask Ladgroves to know the answer.
Act like scum, treated like scum.
Drive like scum, treated like scum.
Act responsibly and be polite, not a problem
Drive responsibly and with consideration, not a problem.
As usual the minority give us all a bad name.

Why does it particular matter to you or bother you?
I wouldn’t say that I am treated like lowlife or scum at any other point in time doing the job and I don’t particularly notice being treated any differently at the moment.
Maybe you could elaborate on how things have changed for you?
I have a tendency to treat people how they treat me. Where ever I go I’m always polite, if people decide to respond by treating me like something they scraped off their shoe they get the same in return. I’ve always had the backing of my boss and his boss in turn in the event that someone should make a complaint about my attitude…and it has happened.
As for driving, I try to be courteous to other road users but like everyone I’ve had my moments.

Tbf he makes a valid point.
As for me it doesn’t ‘‘matter’’ to me or ‘‘bother me’’ as such to the point of say…lying awake at night or similar, but I do notice it, and it more needles me for the simple reason it ain’t justified nor deserved.
On other hand a lot guys in this job do us no favours .
I’ve said to blokes many times ‘‘Would you speak to me as a stranger as you do now, if we were in a pub or somewhere, …don’t do it here now’’ …
That, said with a menacing look usually does the trick I’ve found.
I remember me and my Mrs talking to a couple we met on holiday, after asking what we all done as jobs, I got …"You seem too intelligent to be a truck driver’’
Think that says it all how we are looked upon…(didn’t bother seeing those 2 again during the holiday btw.

Rob some people hate the police. Some people think they are racist and bent. And whilst some are and at one point it probably was institutionalized, it doesn’t detract from the fact that they are doing a tough job often with other people and factors against them.
Again some people think nurses are glorified bum washers. But the level of knowledge and skill they build up over a long career leaves them more knowledgable than junior doctors. Again they work hard in a tough set of circumstances.
I know there are places we go where we are not often treated as well as we would like, but there is a reason for that, probably one amongst us being a ■■■■ at some point or another, though I mainly manage to avoid those sorts of RDC holes.
The OP thinks that we are generally seen as scum by the general public, his words not mine. Yes some have a chip for whatever reason. But some hate the police, nurses, shop workers, prison officers, traffic wardens, politicians, goods in staff, bouncers, bus drivers etc etc.
We aren’t universally anything, loved or hated. Let’s just do the job to the best of our abilities and try be as pleasant as we can at the delivery points, it makes the job so much more enjoyable. Hell, we could even start acknowledging our fellow drivers that flash us back in, we are all out there together after all.
Well said

Blame the Media for swinging such public affections one way - or the other.
I don’t see anyone out seal-clapping the other “Key Workers” eh?

It doesn’t bother me one bit, and this question was not about being polite and considerate on the road and getting the same in return, it was about the undercurrent of dislike HGV’s get from the public on the road (in general). Perhaps it feels better now due to the lack of cars at the moment, but when it’s over it’ll be business as usual im guessing.
