Hi ,
I just wondered if i could get a different view on this .
Following on from my first post, when i failed at a round about im glad to say
I passed my class 2 on the second attempt , but had to wait 6 weeks for the retest.
I want to do my class 1 , however is this reasonable time to wait. I have enquired about retests and their booking now for Mid February.
Now would this be the same with all driving schools because when youve booked your course then your up to the mercy of the Driving school for retests and I didnt think it was very good service. I know I passed but it did feel like a long wait.!
Does anyone think you get better service with a one man band than a company and which is easier artic or wagon and drag?
My test centre is Swynnerton , Staffs.
Any thoughts?. Thanks
Firstly it’s been said a few times on here (I don’t know from personal experience but i can hazard a common sense guess!) that the wagon and drag is basically a useless route to go down, because as you can imagine an artic and a W+D are two different animals, and if you want to get artic work its been advised by a few of the guys on here to get a day or two artic training AFTER passing your C+E which will be another cost for you.
In terms of type of driving school, a one man band, if his wagon has problems, he wont be able to get a replacement that easily(i wouldn’t imagine) but on the plus side he’ll probably take more of an interest in you as an individual and not just another fat pay cheque, so yeah I’ve got a lovely view from sitting on this fence i’m currently perched on but that is an arguement for each side. Hope ot sort of helps maybe if only a little bit!

NO - too long - 2 to 3 weeks MAX - my personal opinion

Train in the type of vehicle you are likely to use for your first job or you will be trying to find out how to drive a type of vehicle that is new to you as well as everything else on your first day
I had my re-test the 4th working day after I failed which is test centres regs and still failed
Got my new test on Tuesday and had to wait a while as I didnt want to go with J Coates again for my own reasons and they couldnt get me in till after x mas now. Yet localish guy here had a cancelation for 16th so I snapped his hand off and having tom and Mon with him even though I dont think I need that much more training I am going the safe not sorry route and hopefully this time will come out with a tick in the right box
And congrats on your class two not long till we’re proper drivers and not screw drivers eh
mine tried to get me in 3 days after but obv couldnt so had to do it ont he 4th day, got a couple of hours free training aswell on the day. was a small company and did well considering they only have one hgv instructor and he is between livingston and glasgow doing training.
I would imagine that the smaller companies who tend to look after you more but they all seem to be wagon and drag , i would prefer to train in a arctic.
I will have to phone some driving schools see what they say.
Can anyone recommend a driving school in Stoke. I went with SID for class 2.
Anyone trained with Bassetts?

I did my c with sids and my c+e with fedex. Out of the two i’d recommend sids but I suppose it depends what instructor you get. I had a right prat at fedex, he was more of a hindrance than help. I think I passed in spite not help from him.
