Just wondering how long would it normally take to pass your class 3 ?, excluding the new mod tests ?,i have heard it only takes a week to get your licence back from dsa to obtain your provisional. Also has anyone heard of mantra training ?,they offer alot of courses and some are government funded but unfortunatly a hgv course is a no.Has anyone taken a hgv course with mantra ?
To pass your class 3■■?
The class 3 hasn’t been a LGV entitlement since 1997 iirc.
They now have the C = Old class 2/3 aka rigid vehicle, and C+E = old class 1 aka unit with trailer/articulated lorry or a wagon and drag
There is no such thing as Class3.
There are categories C1, C1+E, C and C+E:-
C1
Vehicles weighing between 3,500 kg and 7,500 kg, with or without a trailer - weighing no more than 750 kg
C1+E
As category C1 but with a trailer weighing more than 750 kg. The total weight of the vehicle and the trailer together can’t weigh more than 12,000 kg. The weight of the trailer, when fully loaded, can’t weigh more than the unladen weight of the vehicle
C
Vehicles over 3,500 kg, with a trailer up to 750 kg
C+E
As category C but with a trailer over 750 kg
You may be thinking that Class 3 is a C1 vehicle, if you wish to drive a large goods vehicle you do not have to progress from a C1 to C to C+E, you can start with a C class vehicle.
There is lots of information on :- direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/Dr … /DG_182834
I’m sure others will have links to useful information as well.
Courses for Category C vehicles are typically a week long, with a test at the end. Theory tests are taken at theory test centres the same as car tests.
I think he knows that it is a C licence…
How long from start to finish for cat c ?
TIME -
Medical - depends how soon you can book one
Sending off D4 medical and D2 provisional licence forms to DVLA and getting them back… that puts it in the gods of the DVLA and the postal system so anything from 1 week to 6 weeks or more if unlucky !
Getting licence back and booking the theory and a driving course/test will depend on the training school availability of such - could be immediately or 6 weeks
LGV Theory tests are usually fairly easy to get in most areas but allow up to 4 weeks in case.
The driving course itself - anything from 5 to 10 days depending what was recommended on your driving assessment with the training school (I recommend having an assessment for both you and the school)
There you have it - bet it was really helpful & precise … not
Thanks for your replys, yes i meant a class c,i was getting mixed up with canada as a class 3 there is a class c here. I have had a word with my local driving school and they said it would be a 2 to 3 day course. So realistically if all went well u could have a class c within a month ?

Very unusual - unless you already have experience of truck driving ■■?
Usually the shortest course is 5 full days of 2 to 1 or 5 half days of 1 to 1
Its an 18 hour course which is 2 and a half days,i have no experience in driving a hgv, does 18 hours seem right ?
Hi “craig28”
You mean Class 2 or C. I’ve done my Class 2 rpactical test within 6 days. Mo - Thu training, Fri - PASS DAY, next Mo. CPC Pactical. AND it was the easiest part.
The hardest thing is to found a well paied job what you have previously dreamed about.
So you need class 2 license to drive prfessionally in the UK. Otherwise you will need Class 3 CVL (commercial vehicle licence) license if you want to work as professional Truck Driver in Canada.
But if I would work in Canada, probably I would go for Class 1 CVL. Its a same as Class 1 in the UK. and THAT IS GOOOOOD MONEY OUT THERE

Do those prices include VAT ?
Whatever - you CANNOT concentrate for 8 hours a day when training !!!
Choose another comany or get this to give you something that is reasonable for you to achieve
Which company is this ■■?
Yes including vat

Hours per day - 1 to 1 half day (4 hours) or 2 to 1 all day (8 hours) so any 20 hour course would be over 5 days
Take a look at the recommended schools in the list of schools recommended by members via the link in my signature below
I did roc and stockport hgv are on it,thats where i got the price and course details from,

I took a look and it does say 2 or 2.5 days for a C course but I wonder if they mean that as a TOTAL (5 times half days) or literal (example - start monday morning & finish wednesday lunch) ■■?
I would call and ask them

I used them, and although I had some difficulty getting through my test it was because of my own daft mistakes and nothing to do with them, they have a very high pass rate, a lot of good clients and the instructors are excellent. My course consisted of:
8am - 2.30pm
8am - 4pm
8am - 12.15 (when the test was).
I too was surpised at how quick it all seemed, but it worked really well. They also look after you really well and do a great CPC course - I’d recommend them.
(Sorry ROG )
No need to be sorry
I have tried this all-day thing and found the trainee totally drained by just after lunch and had to return to base as they were too knackered to continue - I never found one exception to this and in the end I had the company stop it on safety grounds as well as it being too unfair to the trainees.
If any trainee attempts this then make a note of the actual behind the wheel hours done - I would be surprised if it amounts to anything like what is advertised as the instructor will be forced into giving many long breaks

I can understand what you are saying, I did end each of the days absolutely knackered but didn’t find it to be that much of a problem. Basically, come the test I was driving like a machine because I had been round and round the test routes and had all the routines (mirrors etc) nagged into my head intensively over a short period of time, and it seemd to work in that way. Some people may argue that this may not create the best drivers (to be honest I am a better driver for doing the re-tests), but it gets you through your test which is what they are being asked to do.
hi rob how many attempts did u have before u passed ?,did u do the mod 2 and 4 with them ?,did u find work easier enough afterwords ?
