How long did your DCPC course last?

My DCPC cost £50 per module & I’m happy to have the ourse out of the way & the card in my wallet. As far as Stobarts drivers putting up with having £40 per month stopped from their wages. Surely they can organise the course for themselves, sit the modules at their convenience & save a lot of money in the process.

I was talking across the pump the other day and was told that this driver’s dcpc course started at 9.00 in the village hall and ended in the pub at lunch time. His details were uploaded all for the princely sum of £45.

It doesn’t’ take much between the ears to realize the potential abuse of the dcpc. With little evaluation of the 900 or so dcpc providers, unscrupulous trainers will charge rock bottom prices for little more than uploading details, drivers who have to pay themselves will have no qualms or comeback for choosing the cheapest option-who can blame them?

Stobart drivers who pay £40 a month out of their wages for it, listen to the same course over and over again and grin and bear it.

Just how many times can you repeat driving hours, breaks, wtd, and tachographs?
At the very most you can cover what the vast amount of drivers require to know for their every day work in 2 hours, you can stretch it out with umpteen coffee breaks and anecdotes but in the end it’s a struggle and an achievement for the trainer to last out 7 hours.

And do you really think truck drivers in Bulgaria, Latvia, Poland, Romania, and rest of our Europe will be worried about the dcpc…obtaining a cpc card there is probably just as easy as buying candy and never a classroom in sight!

What mugs we are.

who said STOBART drivers pay for it  if its the course about how to do it the tesco way then that was free, you did it on o/t shift[or i did],frree food, the paying for it as far as i remember was the people who didnt do the stobart course ,or didnt want to were told theyd have to pay for it themselfes, but if you did it through stobarts it was free

Silver_Surfer:
I would have thought stobbies would pay for their drivers to do it.

they do ,but you know what some drivers are like theyll listen to any old ■■■■■■■■

Yes but just think how good this is for the economy, there are people out there who could be on the dole, providing professional qualifications for us poor thick drivers, charging us only a good percentage of the silly money we earn for little work we do, for the fabulous training we receive. Hell just think how much it would cost the working population of our wonderful country to give them their 60 quid a week instead of us drivers paying them 45 grand a year to give us such a valuable service. Thank God we have Europe.

Not quite, It will also become an extra barrier for those who have not done this DCPC which is basically an extra tax on working as a LGV /PSV Driver if your are self employed or the company you work for won’t provide it free,
But if you unfortunately happen to be unemployed post 2014 or are the government going to introduce some type of public funding for it ? as if they don’t then any unemployed driver has the perfect excuse as not many employer’s are going to want to take them on,

Probably just one of many real issues that this government hasn’t given a thought to so far

Funding has been available via job centre for twelve months already

ADR can also be funded from government funding, i think something to do with response to redundancy.

Funding keeps chopping and changing at the moment, but if you are unemployed or under threat of redundancy (offical notice period). There is possible goverment funding available.

I got sacked from my job a couple of months ago, 1st day off went to sign on dole, any questions? Yeah, can I get any training paid for?

Yes, there’s a dCPC course running at local college starting monday. Get me on it

Paid for by gvt.

No way!

The head line on the home page today reads
“Beware of CPC scams” and goes on to describe the scam of courses for only £45 and finishing at lunch time.
This was written by Karen Crispe managing director of tacho disc.

Well obviously she reads the threads on this forum and takes her information from it, re this thread.
Welcome to the real world Karen, despite your protestations about the CPC as a credible learn tool for drivers, You should listen to the comments here from the actual people who drive for their living day in and day out.
Having completed 21 hours training so far (real time) i can honestly say that i have learned not one iota which will contribute to me driving in a safer manner that i all ready do. I would say that 75% of the information given was completely irrelevant to my actual job, the other 25% i knew already. If you want to do something positive Karen, firstly admit that the DCPC in its present form is poor and ill informed, secondly persuade the powers to be change its format to which will make drivers sit up and take note, really time driving assessments for one example, real exams another.

The DCPC is all ready discredited in most drivers eyes, no wonder the system is very quickly being abused

So what about the guys on £6.50 PH, paying tax and NI, trying to feed a family and keep the baliffs away, the honest ones who want to work and not sponge off the government? what funding is available for them?

I cant see me doing the full 35 by 2014, really cannot be bothered to sit it out and be taught by a trainer i have no faith in, if it means i am off the road then so be it, the mortgage is paid and the wife can be pimped.

What a terrible name for a ill thought out course, what should have been called,it is two pages on the course, that lasts all day,and some questions at the end of the sheet, that the tutor does not cover at all.

Mine was 5 minutes, took our licence details, then off to the pub.

I can imagine the trainers thinking that was a good idea

Cash in a brown envelope. :grimacing:
