How long before they put speed limiters in cars?

They are already setting up boxes at the road side that track vehicles from road to road over a specific area. this way they know where you went when you went there and how fast you were going. There are some in Derbyshire and other counties were speeding is a problem.
At the moment they cannot be used to prosecute, but the time is coming. They won’t need to limit your car becuase if you don’t obey the speed limit you won’t have a licence and you will pay them for the privilige

Grayham:
Speed limiting a car would be a silly idea, better if they introduced a minimum speed limit of 60 and over for cars on the motorways so that they stay faster than most trucks and dont clog up the slow lane

Here here but whats a “slow lane”?

Jesus the goverment already have the tech to put into vehicles dont they have 12 dishes orbiting the earth plus they wont because they wont make money from speeding tickets ever again.some camera partenerships say they should remove camera signs but i thought cameras were at blackspots to slow people down so if theres no signs people wont slow down it defeats the object so this just proves its for money not safety sorry but its true …

i already have one its the otherhalf not as good as tom tom her directions are useless but strangely enough she can spot hazards from miles away  funny how on a long journey and she falls asleep as soon as get lead foot syndrome on the accelerator she wakes up

I reckon we are are closer than you think. Don’t Mercedes have a similar system on the cars

The Volvo cars will also be equipped with the following preventive safety features:

  1. CWAB (Collision Warning with Auto Brake)
A feature that at speeds above 7 km/h warns the driver if a collision is imminent. If the driver fails to
react, the car brakes automatically in order to reduce the force of collision.
  2. ACC (Adaptive Cruise Control)
An advanced cruise control system that adapts the vehicle’s speed to match the flow of traffic. If the
car approaches another vehicle from behind, the car lowers its speed and keeps a safe distance.
  3. LDW (Lane Departure Warning)
This feature alerts the driver of unintended lane drifting. The alert is activated if the lane markings are
crossed without using the turn indicator.
  4. DAC (Driver Alert Control)
A feature that analyses the driving behaviour of the driver to discover signs of emerging sleepiness or
loss of concentration. If such signs are discovered, the driver is urged to take a break and recover.
  5. BLIS (Blind Spot Information System)
A lamp located close to each side rear mirror warns if a vehicle is in the driver’s blind spot.

I guess you’ve seen the advert which shows the car braking when it gets too close to the car in front, WHILE THE DRIVER IS LOOKING THE OTHER WAY AND CHATTING !

Roll on peak oil I say.

Leave the roads for drivers not ■■■■■■■ ■■■■■■■■■

Already been done on the MB S Class seen it working by bringing the car to a complete stop at the end of a MWay slip road just by following the car in front, I think it wasalso shown on a Top Gear prog a couple of years ago. The thing to remember with all these systems is
1 They WILL NOT protect you from the other drivers.
2 YOU are MORTAL these various optional extras will not stop you visiting the cutting room after the ride in a meat wagon.

hiya,
Wheel Nut got to get me a car with all the features you have enlightened me about, just one more gadget and thats a voice controlled sat-nav setter upper so’s all i need to do is climb in the back seat shout where i want to be and get full length and sleep until i get there.
thanks harry long retired.

Dont know about anyone else but it seems the more suposed saftey features fitted to new cars the worse the driving habits become. Think the best thing to do is to remove all saftey stuff from cars them maybe people mite concentate on what there ment to be doing. As for speed limiters i that removed and theres no way any govt tree hugger is getting anywhere near my car to reprogram it

Just do like me and run a car that is so old, the technology for speed limiting wouldn’t work in it. (driver of a 20 year old rover )

As has been said before “the best safety device that could ever be fitted to a car is a sharp spike in the middle of the steering wheel”

My car is already speed limited !! To 155 Mph
