So we all know about the rave these days with the likes of the Big Msons and one of the other Budget Supermarkets when it comes to breaking down pallets and tipping your own load etc, no point point moaning, it is here and seemingly to stay, however I went into well known ones at Atherstone last night and tipped a few chilled but then had to go to produce side, those cheeky farkers not only expect tip it yourself but they then expect you to go around their warehouse putting all the pallets into the right lanes for each freaking product, fully expecting a price gun and reloading their own trucks for them at this rate the way it is carrying on !!!
By the time I finished doing their job I had almost spent longer warehousing than I had spent driving that day !!

Finding out exactly what the job entails before taking it on seems to be the answer
lol so you’ve never had a moan then, I tip in the same chain as th OP and it is bit of a p@@s take on what they expect you to do, but still no cheaper labour than a lorry driver!!!
The job is constantly evolving and changing, and in many cases for the worse…
I have delivered dozens of loads into Atherstone on the chilled side, I know the crack and get on with it, putting stuff into their warehouse for them and running all over the place with a dozen different products like a blue ■■■ fly is just a new one on me, Sorry I am not as clued up as you “ROG”

Just stick them all in the wrong place, then they will soon work out its better for them to do it them selfs
I thought about doing that, but quickly realised if you do that then you won’t get your PODS signed because they won’t be able to find what you have tipped
What do the warehouse staff do all day if the drivers are doing their job for them?
Hells ■■■■ I was about to part with a large sum of money to get my class 1, but sounds like the sort of work I can expect as a newly passed driver would be a step in the wrong direction

can i ask do you work for them are you an paid employee of them if not which i think i am correct in thinking this, do you sign a piece of paper to allow you in there warehouse, do there cover you if something happens while your in there building,
You are not covered in there building unless there have public liability i think as you are a member of public and not an employee
i ask once if i was insured to unload, there said we do it 30 minutes later i was tipped
I would do it don’t get me wrong, but you have to protect yourself as no one else will
Went into morrisons 41 and was there on bay did a self tip, still there for 4 hours waiting for paperwork
next day same place went in there said you unloading i said no, there said why, whats the point i still be here for 4 hours mite as well get 3 hour rest so i be able to do an other job later

Especially someone else’s lorry driver
That brings me back to my earlier question - who pays the driver for doing this - haulier or warehouse?
I have raised the issue of H&S and insurance and liability and lack of site induction to cover me and never received a satisfactory answer from either party, all well and good until you are injured and only have statutory sick pay to support your family because neither will pay up, I am paid by the haulier as a driver and thus a supplier to the atherstone brigade.
I know of a driver who was injured at a Morrisons whilst breaking down by a Morrisons fork truck, hurt his ankle and was off work for 3 months on stat sick pay.
Tipping is one thing, tipping then also sorting and storing in correct allocated warehouse lanes is a step too far IMHO and takes the ■■■■ quite honestly.
