Its only when you reach check-in that you know what boat youโre going on. If its โreasonablyโ later than timetable, is that then classed as unforeseen?
I would say that as you have an option of deciding not to book on at that point, and pulling out and parking, then that wouldnโt be unforseen. If however you have booked on and are in the lanes and the ferry is delayed I would say that would be unforseen. Iโve done that on several occasions when I have arrived in Calais and found on arriving at the booth to book on that there is a delay of a couple or three hours and I pull out and park on the beach then ship over in the morning. I prefer doing it taht way and getting a decent uniterrupted rest.
I did read somewhere that you could exceed the drivers hrs regs to avoid parking near any ports that ship to UK because of the clandestines, so it would be OK to get on the ferry even if you were out of hrs
on an other point any driving off the ferry uses driving time, would that be a bonus or would it come from the previous or following days 9 hours?
The parking away from ports to avoid clandestines is irrelevant now as they will break into a trailer 9 hours away from a port, its like a taxi service for them. If they are caught, they are just sent out of the port area then they break into a new trailer or pay someone to hide them.
Driving time wasnโt an issue on this occasion, it was that although I had already extended my working day to 16 hours with a 4 hour break, I then had to do another hour to park
