How is the Smoking ban going?

If only you are using the truck then you can smoke in it.

It is when the other driver that does’nt smoke and gets in the truck and smells the smoke, then complains to the TM that you have been smoking, the ■■■■ will hit the fan.

If the TM does’nt say owt or stop it then the driver may report him to who ever controls this ■■■■.

It’s going great so far - but then I don’t start my week until tonight (Weds). I did enquire about what I was supposed to do if I wanted a smoke and was told ‘just stop and have a smoke, the same as we do when we go outside’. When I said I smoked a pipe which took an hour and that would likely add 4 hours of overtime to the shift and even the possibility that they’d have to come and fetch me if my spread ran out, the mood changed to much giggling. I’m not planning on stopping for an hour at a time, but might add 4 hours to tonight’s timesheet to see what happens. Current plan is to start at 17.00, light pipe at 17.15. Blame the air freshener for the sweet tobacco smell in cab as my tobacco leaves a nice roasted cherry scent.

LOL Pop

ezydriver:
I’ve just carried on smoking. Nothing has been said yet. I put the window down, and the passenger window half down, and dont smoke in the last hour of my journey back to the yard.

Its a ridiculous law and I have some armour up my sleeve should any ■■■ question or accuse me. I’ll just deny it and tell them they have to catch me. There is nothing they can do unless they actually do catch me with a cigarette in my hand. Then I’ll hold my hands up to it.

The more I think about it, the more I realise that it is virtually un-enforcable.

So I wave a [zb] stick in the lense of the fagcam.

Cripes, so a smoking ban and a swearing ban in the same thread on the same day? Thats about 75% of a lorry drivers cultural heritage wiped out in one foul swoop then! You’ll be telling me to ditch the fry ups for lettuce next. I really would leave the industry then.

I haven’t stopped.

Andyroo:
I haven’t stopped.

Smoking, swearing or lettuce

Judging by my observations the ban has not made any difference at all, drivers who smoke in the cab still smoke in the cab…

I was out last night for a large supermarket chain i wont name and shame them as I’d like to go back (units are blue trailers are orange )
on the run sheets there is a new block appeared in five minute sections for you to note smoking breaks :unamused: :unamused:
as a smoker ( cowers in corner begging forgiveness for being weak ) i was told to tick each instance i pulled over and the time would be stopped out of my pay hours . i didn’t pull over once to have a smoke BUT it must be my age because my bladder was playing up something rotten and i need to stop at least once an hour to have a comfort break   .( i try to limit myself to one ciggie an hour )
the thing that was getting all the drivers in the office/waiting room was the warehouse staff don’t have to clock out to go for a ■■■ and neither do the transport office staff neither are they docked any time for nipping out to the shelters
once again the drivers get wee’d on from a great height if their dumb enough to be honest

you can stop after each delivery to cool down, just to be safe on the Road, and, you can Cool down outside the Cab with a ,na you know what i mean

As has been pointed out but overlooked. The smoking ban in units only applies to wagons that have secondary users. If you the sole user or it’s only driven once or twice a year by another then you can smoke in the unit legally.

Seems to me that all the companies have gone over the top and stuck stickers in the cab regardless and most of them don’t understand the law anyway. Also most non smokers don’t seem to know or care what the law requires as the propaganda has them thinking it’s banned everywhere. ( nothing new there tho )

Personally i’ve continued as normal, but it’s going to be interesting tomorrow night when I head for my local. As the Landlady pointed out last week her pub is 99% smokers and she may as well knock down 3 walls and remove most of the roof to make sure she stays in business. So I hope its going to stop raining or else i’m going to complain about the watered down beer.

Think I may move to Europe and drive for a firm there, at least i’ll be able to drive just where I like, smoke, eat and speed all at the same time if i wish. :smiling_imp:

I wouldn’t if I were you, the bandwagon rolls on, it is unstoppable, even in France bars and restaurants are legally smoke free from next year I think, many are already.
Don’t know about wagons, wouldn’t surprise me though.

never smoked ,but the cab smells sweeter, cant say the same for the trailer, some pillock over tightened the brakes, resulting in six very smokey hot tyres, never before has it ■■■■■■ down just at the right time to get to delivery (2 miles away),and load off and home with no further smoke  .

TheBear:
What smoking ban■■?
I went in the Office Sunday on my way out. I got informed I had to put one of these silly little stickers in my cab. I refused point blank. The Office bod said ‘But you have to’. No, I don’t, I replied!! I am on Dutch plates so it doesn’t apply to me. My truck is MOT’d in Holland, taxed in Holland, tacho is calibrated in Holland. Therefore it doesn’t apply to me.

Me too :stuck_out_tongue:

Each to his own and I don’t have a problem with people smoking around me but let’s face it- it’s a pretty daft thing to pay out a major part of your wages for nothing more than to shorten your life.

If people want to smoke than as I said, it’s fine by me. But if people want to recognise smoking for what it is- drug addiction- then that’s fine by me too.

I like the French enforcement though David :stuck_out_tongue:

I was in the centre routier in Orleans and this woman complained about the smoker on the next table. Le Patron showed her outside and pointed to the non smoking tables

Well I managed 6 days without a ■■■ and by then I was bounching around the cab so last night (I’m on nights) I bought a pack and went though full pack in my shift. It was bliss, so, if I’m honest with myself I cannot ever see myself giving up as I admit that I enjoy them. Sad I know.

Fraid not old bean -

Enclosed vehicles
11. –(1) Subject to the following paragraphs of this regulation, an enclosed vehicle and any enclosed part of a vehicle is smoke-free if it is used–

(a) by members of the public or a section of the public (whether or not for reward or hire); or

(b) in the course of paid or voluntary work by more than one person (even if those persons use the vehicle at different times, or only intermittently).

The Smoke-free (Exemptions and Vehicles) Regulations 2007
Which means that if any other person has to drive that vehicle, however little they do so, then it has to be smoke free. Even owner drivers could run foul of the law if they need a mechanic to work on the vehicle (inside the cab for instance).
And the main point is, if the vehicle has a sign stuck in it, then you MUST comply, whether you argue the toss or not.
It is illegal to disobey the sign.

And no, I don’t like it, and no, I haven’t been good this week, but beware the ■■■■■■ who sees the company number on the side of the wagon and decides to grass you up after you make him slow down by 5 mph while you make a turn !
You know what the ■■■■■■■■ are like.
