Article states, that he was carrying a digger on the tipper and hit the low bridge. But why the cab is smashed then?
It’s because he is Polish. 
If you look closely at the pic you will see the mini digger doesnt have any damage it is the hiab that has hit the bridge!! looking the the underside of the bridgr id say the driver got a pritty good look at it!!!
