How far would you travel for work!

im doing an 84 mile round trip daily right now, only driving vans but getting 8 quid an hour, start at 6am, usually ifnished by 11am, get my 8 hours minimum and the works easy enough…except for today but thats another matter

tofer:
Doesn’t that count as “other work” as you are travelling there in a company vehicle?

No…they get round it because the van is classed as my own vehicle, like a company car, but with less tax to pay with it being a van ( costs me approx £12 per week and all fuel & costs paid by the company and I can use it whenever and wherever I want) Also as I dont get paid an hourly rate for travelling, like I do for working, it cant be classed as other work. These were all questions that were asked before I started, but being Stobarts, they aint gonna slip up like that.

4500 miles  already done it. although still looking for work :frowning:

I currently do a 30mile round trip a day so,if i ended up in a job that meant nights out or all week tramping then that sort of distance would be fine by me!!!

I travel 45 miles to work each day then 45 miles back each day so 450 miles per week, the money isn’t that great, but its work, I’m out on the road I’m earning money for the kids and wife, and it keeps me away from Trucknet, I was starting to get too reliant on this site for passing the time :open_mouth:

In reply much further than I did last year,
I drive for an agency last year Max daily mileage 30 miles from home,
This year from Wakefield 2 Tamworth Tramping then tramping out of felixstowe ( containers work)

  • several day shifts out of Manchester Base 120 miles round trip but I get agency to kick in fuel money if its just 1-2 day or nights work.

dont turn into rog plz hahaha

no more than 30 mins
would go further if away all week

100 miles isn’t too much if you’re out all week. My last job involved a commute to flipping Belgium after all, but I was out 6 weeks on the trot there, then a week home. The longer I’m out, the further I’ll commute, of course, it depends on how much of my time off I’d blow on the commute.

hiya,
if it involved needing the HGV licence i wouldn’t get out of bed in the present climate, for a road sweeping post i’d catch the bus,
thanks harry long retired.

I drive 110 round trip EVERYDAY. The car is getting hammered im putting nearly £70 of diesel in a week. Im on agency and its the only way i can stay in work. My air-con is not working so its not too nice at the mo

ive done 335 miles since monday just goin to and from work, im knackered lol

So far this week I have done 16 miles in total to work and back, Off today, back in Thurs and Fri so another 16 miles, grand sum of 32 miles plus thats on a motorbike, so good economy, being agency, I wont travel any further than I have too, it eats into your wages too much…

Dont think I have ever travelled more than 20 miles to a place of work…

It all depends on the job really…

I travel 14 miles each way ATM and am out 1-5 nights a week, and can stand the cost of it if i am home every night…

When i worked for PTM i travelled 78 miles each way, but was away for 1-3 weeks at a time…

In the days of Self Employed Agency Driver at Silly rates, i would regularly do a 90mile a day round trip in a Vectra SRi as the rates more than made up for it…

I used to work in Barry, live in Swansea–51 miles each way.Normally out all week so not a problem, and if I was not awayI would stay in truck in yard-showers,mess room and Morrisons a kilometre away.If I had an early start for an early tip or ferry I would stop in yard the night before.Better than waking wife, dogs, neighbours at say 1.30am.Normally if on local work I would load for Llanelli and take truck home
