How far would you push it?

I was just wondering today, at what high difference on a low bridge do you give before you say its to close. Say your height is 4.4M or 14ft 5in, what is the smallest high of bridge you would go under?

or in other words what high difference do you give yourself?

thanks

Are you asking if our vehicle was 4.4 m would we try to go through a bridge with a 4.3 m height restriction?

I hope he’s not, put it this way if he was driving a bus I wouldn’t want to be on it heading towards that bridge.

Have a look at the road surface. If it looks like it has been re-done recently, and the height marked is the same as your vehicle, you could be asking for trouble.

Think a bit further forward pal, as do you really wanting to be explaining to your boss that you tore the top off the wagon■■?

A bridge the same as your height is somewhat defensible, although I think I’d crawl through if I HAD to take that route.
But trying to argue your case on a bridge less than your height, now that’s indefensible. Period!!!

I’ll hold my hands up and confess that I have done it on occasion. The most I have given it is two inches. I reckon the truck is about 2 inches smaller and the bridge a few inches higher than stated.

I have absolutely no knowledge to back this up but what I do have is balls made of steel.

Hopefully stainless.

Otherwise the odd dribble will make them rust.

When going under these bridges remember that 5 trucks hit rail bridges every day, don’t be one of them

I think he was asking what would be the lowest hight you would go under if the hight of your vehicle was 14 ft 5 in.

I’d set the sat nav height at 14ft so it wouldn’t take me under anything borderline.

I think you mean set it at 15’ mate.

No, no I think you miss understand my question, I would obviously not go under something slated as smaller, let me try to put it another way…

If your truck is 4.4m would you go under a bridge that was plated at 4.5m or 4.6m or higher?

Yes.

The difference between 4.4m and 4.5m is nearly four inches so yes.

ok so if it was in inches and your truck was 14ft 5in would you go under a bridge that was 14ft 6in?

If you mean a sign showing the bridge height I’d try to avoid it, if you’re talking about a road sign that shows the maximum vehicle height allowed like the one bellow I’d go to the maximum shown on the sign and no higher.

That’s down to you dude… 1 inch isn’t much comfort zone…I prefer to have something like 4 inch … Are you sure your truck is 14ft 5… did you measure it when you started the shift… :grimacing:

If only i had the chance to drive a truck, got my test on Saturday. I would be one to air on the side of caution.

" I prefer to have something like 4 inch "

I’ve got that Swampster. (If you fold it in half).

The bridge height sign indicates the maximum height of a vehicle which can safely pass. The bridge is likely to be higher.
