For my Cat C I travelled 40 miles to Exeter. For my Cat CE I travelled a couple of hundred miles and did a residential course.
What is more important is the quality of the trainer and the trucks.
Go and have assessments with your local training schools.
Good Luck
anywhere in the uk , for top quality training, and decent training vehicle
Have you tried 2start? They are not far from you
For my CE i travelled 30 miles each way everyday, out of the 4 local LGV training schools, the one i eventually settled on was the furthest away and the most expensive, but as i passed at the first attempt i consider it money well spent.
I was/am lucky, I have an awesome well known training centre 10-15 miles away

As I have stated I have 4 good reputable trainers near me it is down to personal preference really for me ( which trainer is best suited to me ) as has been discussed it is how you / they work with you & to your needs
Have spent time on the phone to trainers on here who have given me a lot of help & advice without a question of there time & yep would have poss gone to 1 of them if not had such a good choice here
From the other side of the coin, I can tell you we’ve had candidates from literally all over the UK (except Northern Ireland) and also from Tenerife and the record has to be, Brisbane.
When I have looked for my own training for various skills I have deliberately booked on residential courses so that I could “sell my soul” to the training. Clearly this doesn’t suit everybody but it works for me and many others have proved that it works for them.
All the best to everyone training and testing this week, Pete
PS The candidate I am training myself this week lives about half a mile from the training centre. Not sure what that proves but thought I’d through that in for good measure!
Yes i have looked at 2start but was just wondering how far people have gone for training as i was thinking of using yourself peter or flair training as they gave me a reasonable quote but I’m not sure what to do it wont be till sept but gotta get looking and choosing as i want to have something set in stone…

Although the travelling distance does have to be considered it should not be the No1 factor when deciding upon a trainer. In all fairness the distance affects some people more than others, if for example they do not own a car or perhaps it is impossible to stay away due to child care issues etc.
There is quite a lot you can get done towards the licence without worrying about the distance. The medical and provisional application and the theory test and even CPC Mod 2 can all be passed before you have to think about where to actually go for the few days training.
That way when you are ready to take the course you may decide to have a few assessment drives or decide on a trainer based on your personal priorities. you will also be able to take advantage of any special deals that may pop up before September. The overall cost of the licence will not go up as any trainer offering all inclusive packages will reduce the price by the bits you have done anyway.
As John has already stated circumstances can dictate whether you travel or use a good training school in your area.
Something that hasn’t been mentioned is if you are to travel and are unfortunate and fail - it does mean probably more expense by the time you have the extra distance and accomodation to find.
I am by no means trying to discourage anyone from travelling(we have people travel to us) but it’s something to bear in mind.
Happy training wherever you do it
John

Completely agreed. It almost broke me. I had to go back twice to get my CE and pay for accommodation and retest fees.
Obviously we would hope that you pass first time… but…
Good Luck.
