How far in advance do you know what your job is for the next day or a Monday ?i.e does your traffic office let you know on a Friday night before you leave or do you have to phone in over the weekend ?
They tell me a time the day before and I find out where when I turn up.
Usually the night before or the Friday before the Monday. But we do get silly last minute back loads like the one I had yesterday from Heinz,Wigan- 5 hour wait, so I ran out of time & had an unscheduled night out.
I work nights and usually find out where I’m going and what time I’m starting in the morning when I’ve just finished the previous shift. Sometimes though, as was the case today, I find out a couple of hours before I’m due to start. I don’t mind it though, I like surprises! 
Sometimes a day before, sometimes an hour before and sometimes there and then when I’m on the way to somewhere else and get diverted!!.. Nothing is ever set in stone until the load is actually off the trailer!!
I have a regular start time and a regular evening run but what I do between start and evening run is told as and when

Why Adam? Depends if on general haulage or other work! General haulage can be last second on the day! Trunking is same time all the time as you know so work dependent!

That’s the joy of Tramping for you Luke! Go where ever whenever! I miss it now! Trunking you see! It’s a trade off for me. Less money earned but time at home with my wife and kids or out all week/month and earn more for more hours banked! I’m currently trying to find occasional weekend night work or maybe go back tramping! Living costs are rising faster than earnings now so your ahead of the game living in your Volvo! ■■■■ I’m envious of you right now!
