How exactly does a digi card work

Note for KittyKat…don’t panic re using your Digi for the 1st time.

The very first (and second come to think of it) job I did since getting my licence involved the use of a Digi tacho. The agency told the company I had a Digicard but omitted to tell them it was virginal (as I was  ). When I got to the customer I informed them I hadn’t used a Digi before, they appointed one of their drivers to lead me by the hand through the entire process. This also happened on my second drive 2 days later!

I’m still not 100% (i’ve never taken a printout) but it’s no longer a nemesis!

It is as important to the operator that the Digi is used correctly so don’t be afraid to ask

Just sit and mess about with it, you wont do any harm.

Thanks for the advice Tazbug. I will have a look at the simulators also as it looks like it may be some time before I ever get to use one. This job hunting lark aint easy. Must have contacted over 70 companies this month and not heard nothing, it is getting me down knowing im stuck working in a dental surgery when in my heart I want to be driving. Have to keep trying though and hopefully will get there one day.

Just one thing to remember. Put ya card in before you do ya checks or you will have to mess about setting it to show you’ve done the checks. As told to me once by vosa, and it’s easier if you just put it in then do your checks.

I always put mine in after I’ve done my checks and then do a manual entry for the time taken to do the checks, this is also perfectly acceptable with vosa.

They are real easy mate pop it in, press 2 buttons then drive! When you take your break, press one more button, when your finished drive off!Have you found a job?

Funnily enough put mine in the other day and it came up card error or something and i thought bugger maybe it’s broke so ejected it and i only put it in upside down  and i use a card every working day

or keep your thumb over your picture & it will be the right way up

Unless the tacho head is fitted low down in the dash, of course…

(on our old fleet of Daf LFs, the tachos were tucked away by the driver’s right knee)
