Any know how someone with military C+E (or the military equivalent) licence manages to get it onto their civilian licence?
Cheers

they dont. there is no need to change, they take the same test as civvy people
a military c+e is the same as a civilian c+e.
i dont know if anything has changed since this young driver scheme has come into force but it was the case that military people under 21 with a c+e could only drive them for military purposes.
There is no need to change, the tests that are taken are civilian tests for all driving licences.
are you sure? The person in question took the test almost 20yrs ago. I think things were done differently back then…

quite sure, i took my test with the raf in 1986 and it was a civvy test and a civvy pass certificate,

The test has changed a bit since then but if the person passed then it is still classed as a pass
They may need to do the dcpc to drive commercially
They also may need to re new medical if that is what you are thinking
As stated no need
I took mine in in 1987 whem you still got issued the HGV licence as a book.
It was marked IIRC “Military Vehicles only” because I was 17 at the time
Passed 3,2,& 1 all with the military sent the lisence of to DVLA the marker was removed when I turned 21
Never had to have them converted
As stated it was a civvy examiner and a civvy test.
Are you sure your mate has not passed at 17 and sat on eh same licence ever since?
It might have ran out depending on his age
OK, thanks a lot for the replies, I’ll have a word with my mate & pass on the info.
Cheers

No they weren’t. I got my Cat C thanks to the Army. I had to apply for a standard Cat C provisional licence and I did a civilian driving test at ASMT Leconfield, got a pass certificate and that and my driving licence was sent to Swansea to have Cat C added.
If he doesn’t have Cat C/C+E, he may have a MOD licence for moving vehicles around on base and in war zones but that does not entitle him to drive on the road in the UK. He has to take a driving test if this is the case and also do a DCPC before he can get a job.
If he’s only got an FMT600 he won’t be able to swap it for a licence as it’s only a ‘permit to drive’ which allows unqualified drivers to move vehicles ‘in time of need’.
As said by others, if he passed a test he’ll already have the licence.
Pete the post:

If it isn’t a driving licence, it is not a licence full stop, If it is an army docket, it has no more worth than a shunters familiarisation course.
The Motor Transport 600 form is probably closer to a CITB or CSCS card
The FMT 600 is purely a military permit to drive vehicles you are licenced for - you still have to have the categories on your licence
Yup as all posts above - military personnel have the same licences as civvies - the difference being the tester was most likley a squaddy - all beit a qualified examiner - who had the right ticket to give licences to soliders - i got all mine this way - never sat any civvy tests just military in a military vehicle.
cheers
