like this…
first the grabber grabs it and puts it down for the bucket
then the bucket it scoops it up and shoves it in the box
then he picks up this thingmajig to shove it all to the front and hopefully not out of the front

yep you got it.
Have seen those thingmajig attachments used to push waste plastic bales on. Good way of doing it.
I had a load of that out of EMR in the midlands a couple of years ago when working for Hanbury Davies.
They had a shovel with hydraulic extending arms that could push the metal all the way to the front.
Need to be aware of the top of the container bulging though as if its bad they cannot stack the boxes at the port or on the boat. They have been turned away before
I’ve heard that night shift staff use the same device to put numerous pallets on trucks in one go at some RDC’s, eggs and all and in half the time
The best one I had was from Sheffield.
Took box off, put it on its head, shovelled (crane) the crap in, then put the box on me.
Doesn’t that bugger the wagon up or even push the container off the trailer? I would imagine the effect is similar to a Barber Green getting the last bits out of a tipper and shoving it back and to. I always hold the footbrake on and if the machine driver pushes too hard I let the wagon move rather than damage the truck. Doesn’t the same principle apply here?
I thought they turned the empty container on its end and filled it up and then righted it and then loaded it onto the truck? I’m sure I’ve seen some pics on here where they use a big hydraulic ram to push it upright?
Its right whats already been said, I have had them turned away at Freightliner for the box being out of shape…
Good god the standard of proper terminology is horrendous, a “thingymajig”
Everyone knows its called a “watchjamacallit”

that will be cf booths in rotherham they fill them on end. they are meant to put a bracket on the end to take the force but forgot with mine one day and when they leveled it off there was loads of scrap poking out the end.
i took a load of scrap into EMR at kingsbury a while back and they had a special jig which turned the box on its end and then it was filled from the top…doors shut then …tipped back and reloaded onto the skelly.
there is a scrap yard, EMR i think, on Landor Street in Birmingham, virtually next door the the [zb] hole that is Freightliner, they take the box off and stand it on its end to load.
never done that one though
(Small language edit. The only censor dodge allowed on these boards is [zb]. Simon)

Thats right, couldn’t remember the name of the hole

They do that at Dunn Bros in Smethwick too
I’ve loaded the scrap like that or had a 20’ box taken off me turned on it’s end to load at either Dunn Bros or a place down in Bourne.
This next part should maybe in the BS section, loading at some metal recycling place 1 day, the names & locations escape me, got talking to a Medite contractor driver in his brand new Volvo FH XL gobstopper, think it was a Hanbury motor, anyhow he’s trying to tell me that when these containers get to China, they don’t unload the container the whole lot box included, gets bunged into a furnace and gets melted down!!! I had to walk away from this guy, is he serious?
Would not surprise me if thats what the chinese do, they don’t give a gnats whisker about the planet/shortages/environment etc…
The guy had an almost new box on! What about the flooring, rubber seals & the cast metal door poles & handles?

ive oftened wondered that myself
i know when i worked in southampton shipyard that alot of the steel that came from china and the far east used to have a lot of faults with it due the amount of crap the chinese and who ever chucked it to get the steel out of it. you could never beat good old british steel.
You’ll find that a lot of the big players like EMR Riddles Metal & Waste are using equipment to load boxes on their end although it does make the box very front heavy. At least it makes the loads a lot quicker as opposed to yards using bobcats and all manner of diy rams pushing the truck across the yard and constantly tearing holes in the boxes then you spend just as much time having them welded up.Should never use new boxes as after a couple of round trips to China or India all there fit for is scrap themselves. We try and specify old boxes that have been knocked about a bit. Some of the yards are baleing the metal up now like the waste paper particularly Lead which makes it a bit more civilised.
