If you have proof that a person or persons are practicing Payola the police should be informed, trouble is the shysters know that proof is very hard to obtain, nevertheless it is still a crime and a henous one at that.As for grassing, would you shop a thief, even if he had burgled your Mum.
My response to your question was in no way intended as personal, furthermore I am in agreement with you, the point I was trying to make is, if you feel so strongly about the situation you find yourself in, lead by example, you and other O/D’S are the people it affects most, sadly, your comrades are letting themselves and you down. As for the thief comment, no I would not grass, I would kill the ZB! I have no problem " Grassing " if I am aware of the facts, no personal slur intended, apologies if any taken.

I am astonished that people find the practice of bunging,bribing or payola acceptable, what ever happened to honesty and decency, are you all telling me that you turn a blind eye to all crimes or just the ones that you decide are not crimes but just the way you interpret the law of the land.Some of you are prepared to bribe your way to the top of the employment tree regardless of cost. When you run out of money because everybody else has done the same, do you then offer up your wife or girl friend for the best deal or maybe your children could be part of the bargin, where will it end?? You think I am exagerating or talking hollier than thou, well think again. I have been subject to payola three times in my proffession as an OD, it is not funny and it is not nice.
The third time happend just recently, I am now with a different firm because of “extra payments” How many more times do I have to vote with my feet before everybody has the courage to say no no no.Just bare this senario in mind. 50 truck drivers are registered with Agency ABC, all 50 drivers are now bunging 50 quid to get first preference for a job, to get noticed you will have to pay 100 quid, see where I am going?? Come on guys show some spirit shop the shysters or at the very least dont pay. Merry Xmas

I heard that some people only employ friends and family too, nepetism i think its called. It all needs stopping. I’m starting to think this may be why we never see all the best jobs in the job centre !!

Unfortunately this DOES go on, this is something that really annoys me, but I have to live with it.

Not only does it go on Mike it goes on in our town and in our industry, there are certain shipping lines we don’t work for because they expect a regular ‘drink’ and while we give a bottle or 2 out at Christmas we won’t resort to brown envelopes or nights on the town around the strip bars.
This won’t go away until people stop paying but not all those who pay think it’s wrong

I don’t condone PAYOLA (as you call it) but I realise that bungs are part of many industries and will remain that way for ever in some form. You might be better to accept that it is very much part of the transport industry and stop letting it bug you so much as neither you, me nor anyone else on here will change it.

I admit to handing out ‘favours’ to customers in previous business, tickets for the football, golf days, meal and beer etc,
The reason I did it was to keep them on my side and for them to keep lining my pockets with work, keeping my competitors out of the frame to ensure my bills are paid and my family are fed,
Unfortunatly its a dog eat dog world in business, and I always kept my teeth sharp.
I dont know which world your living in, but have they found world peace there and a cure for cancer yet, because in my real world they aint.
