How did you do your training?

Just read a post that driver is doing his class 1 training next week Monday to Thursday. When I done mine I found that a lesson over 3 hours was just a waste for me and I generally done both classes 2 hours a week over a couple of months each. Indeed on class 1 there was one week were I only done an hour through lack of money.
I ended up passing both first time so it worked for me.
How did you do yours?

Most training now is done over a short period of time i.e. 1 week test on last day

You don’t drive all that time due to having a break chat bout it but works out about 4 hrs ish per day on 1-1

Just take a look in the newbies section

I started Monday morning took test Friday afternoon and that was about 27 yrs ago.

Total of 16 hours over 4 days (including test on the 4th day)

Did my class 3 hgv in 8 hours (old git) 1987
Week later class 1 psv another 8 hours.

1988 straight from 7.5 to the old HGV class 1 over 7 days with test on day 7 and 2 to 1

I went straight to class 1 in the seventies, started on Monday and had the test on Friday late morning.

I didn’t do too much driving on the Monday or Tuesday because there was another bloke with us who was taking the test on the Tuesday afternoon, after that it was just me and the trainer until the test on Friday.

It was comical on one of my lessons, where driving an army Bedford around Lincolnshire somewhere 2 to 1 and the other guy Phil was driving, the instructor told him to go straight across the roundabout… He bloody well did , I smashed my head on the roof and he sprained his wrist,.
We went back an hour later to look at the tyre marks across the grass
He told the instructor he thought it was an order from an nco (edit)

From car to Class 1 in a week. Living and breathing it for a very intensive week (including frustration, arguments and tears  ), means that you don’t get time to forget it and it also prepares you for the long hours of concentration to come. My instructor only did 1 to 1.

Once you pass, you just want to get on with it, so again, no time to forget. I think I would find myself wasting a proportion of shorter, less often lessons, re-familiarising myself with what I did last time. Just a personal opinion - we all learn differently, but I’ve always preferred a shorter, more intense form of learning/training in any subject.

we can do a Class 1 in 2 Weeks, but is expensive.
You need an Accommodation and seat Monday to Saturday Noon in a Classroom,or part of a Driving Team.
Monday to Friday is 8 Hour and saturday 5 Hour.
After 2 Weeks you shall be ready for the Test
Otherwise you do it,as i did, over a few Weeks Monday to Friday in Evening Classes and Saturday Driving Lessons.

I cant remember how many hours a day it was actually driving.

Car to class 2, 1976. Two weeks free training at the companies own training school near Pickering with all lodging and expenses paid!

Pete.

Did my class 1 training in a week, well not even that, Tuesday and Wednesday was 2 4 hour lessons with test on the Thursday, I think it’s alot better that way, everything is fresh in your mind then, but everyone is different.

Class 2 training in a week, Class 1 training in a week and that was over 20 years ago.

34 + yrs back 3 afternoons in Hawick then 4th morning test for class1 was on class 2 at work then (strange story about driving plant(tippers) on road on car licence cough cough.) :unamused: perkins powered ford D wae single axle right at the back…lol.

No
But the examiner was a sarge and freaked out shouting at me to pull over but I wouldn’t as the road had a white line down the kerb, when I got to a layby he jumped out fing and blinding, seems a wasp had got in the cab and he didn’t like them
He said to me “I suppose I have to pass you after that,” and I was not to mention it in the naafi
So true to form I saw him in the naafi, walked over gave him two pints of bitter and told him I told everyone, he got up knocked the ale over and legged it after me half way around the camp

Good story that but I’m sure wasp or no wasp you’d have passed anyway
