Hi all posted here before on advice for class 1, been on class 2 for 8 years
Well started my training yesterday (Test saturday )
Yesterday general driving went well with a bit of MSM to polish up on and natural hesitation in that (new to me) truck with a dangly bit
Today got reversing down to a T and feel quietly confident
Uncouple/ Recouple no problem Feel quietly confident
BUT General driving today took a down turn: stopped with trailer over box junction (too busy checking mirrors)
And, failed to notice a bus lane operational sign so i second guessed an stayed out of it
Kicking my â â â over these things as i know school boy errors
But and sorry for long post,
This MSM stuff, i seem to spend more time looking in my mirrors then i do looking ahead (dont seem safe to me) but yet i seem to be not quite there with it. I know ive been driving hgv for 8 years ( and dont profess to know it all either) But this test standard stuff is hard to get back into IE, the order we do things (Even tho we constantly know whats around us) Its hard to change my ways, any advice would be great as this seems to be my down fall
Or is it me being to harsh expecting to kick bad habits to early
And of course watch this space for saturday to see the result
Thanks in advance
Do all the MSM and PSL stuff in the car/truck which you drive on a daily basis, drive like a learner for a few days until you pass and then revert to bad habits/old ways lol.
Cheers guys, trying that learning in the car ect, feel a t*t but doing it lol guess im beating myself up too much hay
Will relax and see the difference tomorrow
Update to follow, good luck me
I also used to beat myself up a bit. But I think it made me more more aware next time. Good luck
First advice is to take the mirror checks and shoulder checks seriously. Itâs nothing to do with tests, itâs all to do with proper driving.
Second advice is not to make a fuss about it. I hope youâve had âscanningâ explained to you - but it doesnât sound like it. Scanning starts in the nearside window and makes itâs way, slowly, into the n/s mirror, accross the screen, into the os mirror, just into the os window and then slowly returns. Simply speed it up when you get to a place that demands mirror checks as a routine.
This is so simple and effective but rarely taught.
Try scanning and you may find it feels a lot more secure than flicking backwards and forwards just between mirrors.
But please, dont abandon it once youâve passed your test.
All the best, Pete
It will help that your retest is so close. Nothing forgotten (hopefully).
Just call that a dry run and best of luck for tomorrow.
Glad it helped. All the best for tomorrow. Pete
